Job description
Role Purpose
· The Market Data Operations (MDO) team sit with the Global Data Services (GDS) shared service in HTS GBM.
· The vision of the MDO team is to : “Deliver cost effective and compliant market data services HSBC wide”
· The MDO team’s Mission Statement is : “To manage all market data spend globally through the GDS Shared Service. Delivering a ‘best in class’ market data service to the business, driving cost effective and compliant use of market data globally”
The MDO team has three main service offerings;
· Market Data Sourcing – relationship management for Market Data Vendors and providing contractual and commercial negotiations for all market data services globally, collaboratively working with Procurement.
· Business Liaison – manage the relationship with the business, including request processing, cost management, cost savings and budget tracking
· Administration & Finance – managing the invoice processing, vendor declarations, inventory management (MDM) and MI reporting.
· The Head of EMEA Market Data Operations managed a team of approx 18 Market Data Analysts who are responsible for the vendor management, business liaison administration and finance for market data spend across the majority of EMEA countries and business functions (including Global Markets, Global Banking, Private Bank, Asset Management, HSS and various support functions).
· The role works closely with the Head of America’s MDO, Head of APAC MDO, Global Head of Market Data Strategy and the Head of Market Data Processing in Bangalore who all report into the Global Head of MDO currently based in London.
· Principal Accountabilities: Key activities and decision making areas
· Management of Market Data Business Analysts
· Strong and effective management of the team to ensure team and individual objectives are met
· Set team and individual objectives
· Regular 1:1’s with team members to support and provide guidance on operational activities
· Regular and clear communication and direction via team meetings and day to day interaction
· Conduct effective mid and end year reviews incorporating career development plans and feedback from key customers
· Ensure stakeholder requests and requirements for market data are being met
· Co-ordinate and work with other areas within GDS, legal and procurement and encourage cross sharing of information
· Ensure teams are comfortable with level of communication from line manager and senior managers
Effective Management of the EMEA Market Data Financials/Budget
· Responsible for ensuring direct market data costs for key business areas does not exceed plan
· Prepare market data budget working with business to understand future requirements/projects and their impact on budget and cost allocation
· Monthly tracking of actuals vs plan with any variances explained to the relevant business units
· Review monthly budget vs actual with business heads across EMEA and provide recommendations when required
· Manage the relationship with HSBC Finance departments and with vendor finance teams to ensure invoices paid and allocations made reconcile and that the business are charged correctly
· Part of management team to implement the right-shoring of market data invoice reconciliation and administration processes for UK, Paris and European countries.
Vendor Relationship and Contract Management
· Proactive management of market data contracts in line with the appropriate FIM and relationship management for all market data vendors
· Negotiation and management of agreements ensuring HSBC obtains the most cost-effective solution to meet business requirements globally
· Ensure all new and existing contracts are being tracked and managed in accordance with procedures
· Ensure adherence to Group policies and processes relating to procurement and vendor risk management as set out in the Operations FIM
Inventory & Invoice Management
· Manage the market data inventory database - ensure database is being updated accurately and in time to record any monthly changes including uploads, cancellations, additional costs, new contracts/renewal costs
· Declarations and usage reporting in line with contractual requirements
· Monitoring of invoice tracking and processing
· Checking and approving invoices
· Monitoring of performance of all off shored activities relating to the EMEA team.
Stakeholder Management Across Key Business Areas
· Ensure that the business is provided with transparent costs reflecting their market data spend and to assist with the budget forecasting and management
· Provide advice and guidance to the business on the optimum market data for their business requirements, advising of new products and services when available and managing trials if appropriate
· Chair regular meetings with the business heads to review trends in spending and usage and to review upcoming business plans and any new vendor products or services
Customers / Stakeholders
· COO’s/BM’s across key business areas across EMEA , including;
· Global Markets – all asset class; Global Banking; Global Research; Global Asset Management; Global Private Bank; HSBC Securities Services; Infrastructure and Support Functions (e.g. Finance, Operations, Corporate Comms, Product Control etc)
· Group and Business Function Finance departments across EMEA
· GDS Business Control & Risk Management – Market Data Audit
· Procurement & Legal
· Major Challenges (The challenges inherent in the role that require a continual test of the role holder’s abilities)
·Overseeing control and integrity of MDS inventory in conjunction with the Market Data Processing Team and Global Database Manager
· Management of poor performers within the EMEA Market Data Team
· Facilitate management of budgets by analysts and input into forecasts
· Adhering to dynamic requirements for risk management within the organisation
· Working with the business to facilitate changing priorities
Role Context (The environment and operating conditions of the role including the extent of guidance and authority)
· Part of the Global Market Data Operations team with counterparts in HK and NY
· Facilitate standard processes and procedures being followed globally
· Manage and facilitate all requests from key business areas and ensure they are being addressed
· Management of Risk (Operational Risk / FIM requirements)
· Is aware of the Operational Risk scenario associated with the role and acts in a manner that takes account of operational risk considerations.
Observation of Internal Controls (Compliance Policy / FIM requirements)
· Maintains HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.
· Understands, follows and demonstrates compliance with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations and procedures that apply to the conduct of the business in which the jobholder is involved, specifically Internal Controls and any Compliance policy including, inter alia, the Group Compliance policy.

· Strong stakeholder management skills – credibility with senior business stakeholders. Ability to understand and resolve business issues as they arise.
· Confidence in vendor management and knowledge of market data purchasing, contract admin process
· Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
· Excellent administration skills
· Strong market data analysis experience and knowledge of wide range of market data vendors and services
· Broad knowledge and experience of Market data tools such as MDM, RPM and Crystal reporting
· Excel proficient.
