Job description
Role Purpose
This role is responsible for developing data and information architecture and modeling strategy, framework, governance and roadmap initiatives of solutions delivered by D&IM. Additionally the D&IM Data Architect works with demand managers to align strategic vs. tactical requirements and identify the preferred approach to meet requirements and to deliver the strategic architecture.
Impact on the Business
- Responsible for the development of the data management stores (discovery reservoirs, data warehouses and datamarts, plus information management architecture delivery to support Digital, CRM and Business Analytics for RBWM, in accordance with the Data and Information Management guiding principles.
- Leads and directs data and information architecture for D&IM projects across conceptual, logical, physical, dimensional and semantic layers
- Provide expertise in use of Data Integration, Metadata and Information Management tools for solving data integration problems as well as supporting strategic architectures.
- Support the Enterprise Data Modeling process (Conceptual, Logical, Physical and Semantic) on various data platforms including Hadoop.
- Define and govern the reference architecture, guiding principles, standards and patterns for development and data access teams
- Provide support to the Data Functional Design Authority and Architecture review processes that will examine all project designs for alignment to target state architectures, guiding principles, and standards.
- Oversees implementation of data and information management solutions as well as facilitate continuous improvement of use and effectiveness of data model implementations.
- Manages metadata, business glossary and data lineage functions for ETL, Data Warehousing and BI
Customers / Stakeholders
- Engage with numerous data and information architecture related initiatives to guide requirements, development of solution, and provide necessary oversight for conformance with data and information architectural standards.
- Provide thought leadership and technical and industry expertise that will contribute to innovative business solutions and advanced integration techniques
- Conduct or participate in facilitated sessions to define business requirements and project scope
Leadership & Teamwork
- Provide necessary thought leadership and strategic direction with management to propagate the vision across the enterprise
- Work with team of data & information architects, modelers and solution architects
Operational Effectiveness & Control
- Participates in selection and recommendation of tools and solutions to meet business information needs
- Contributor to Data Governance implementation and support
- Contributor to long term strategic roadmap for data and information architecture, modeling and solution evolution

- Significant number of strategic programmes and tactical requests for information. Requires the role to support the balance of strategic intent with tactical pragmatism, whilst delivering to a transformational roadmap

- The jobholder will also adhere to and be able to demonstrate adherence to internal controls. This will be achieved by adherence to all relevant procedures, keeping appropriate records and, where appropriate, by the timely implementation of internal and external audit points, including issues raised by external regulators.
Desired profile
Knowledge and Experience
- 10 plus years of experience in Data Architecture and Modeling in Data and Information Architecture and Data Warehousing
- Practical experience with Big Data technologies and Architecture.
- Experience building multiple Logical Data Models, both custom and industry banking models (FSLDM or BDWM).
- Experience designing and supporting a multi-terabyte Data Warehouse using Teradata, Oracle, Hadoop or DB2.
- Requires technical understanding of key aspects of current architectures regarding Data Integration, SOA, Master
- Data Management, Metadata, Data Warehousing, Reporting & BI product suites.
- Experience with data security and privacy architecture is critical.
- Requires extensive understanding of Data Warehousing, Active Data Warehousing, Operational Data Stores, Data Integration, Reporting and BI technologies.
- Experience achieving objectives in a large organization including influencing and negotiating with Sr. Management.
- Experience with and a strong understanding of the Teradata RDBMS, Hadoop and the SAS product suite.
- Experience with different classes of BI tools. Experience with Cognos, Tableau is a plus.
- Excellent people skills, leadership skills and experience motivating people to achieve objectives.
- Understanding of Data Integration and ETL technologies. Experience with DataStage or SAS is preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Science, Business or Arts is required, Master's degree in Computer Science or similar is
