eTrading Java Developer

Our technology teams in the UK work closely with HSBC's global businesses to help design and build digital services that allow our millions of customers around the world, to bank quickly, simply and securely. We also run and manage our IT infrastructure, data centres and core banking systems that power the world's leading international bank.

Our multi-disciplined teams include: DevOps engineers, IT architects, front and back end developers, infrastructure specialists, cyber experts, as well as project and programme managers.

We work in small, agile DevOps teams with colleagues around the world from our offices at the Bluefin Building in Southwark, our global headquarters in Canary Wharf, and multiple other locations around the UK including Sheffield, Leeds, Barnsley and Birmingham.

Following extensive investment across our Technology and Digital domains and with plans for continued expansion throughout 2020 and beyond, we are currently seeking an experienced eTrading Java Developer.


Business Area Overview


The evolution of electronic trading and automation has changed execution of Fixed Income products; driving a need for real-time, low latency and robust technology. In this increasingly electronic and competitive landscape, HSBC is building out new capabilities in the major European, US and Asia markets.


What you will be doing


This role is for a Senior Java Developer to work in the Fixed Income eTrading Team in London, enhancing our trading tools and wider integration.

The role requires a high technical ability, along with strong quantitative understanding. A significant set of challenges revolve around low latency / high performance, therefore ideally you will be familiar with real time / event driven programming.

The team works very closely with traders, helping to design solutions to complex problems, therefore the ability to communicate clearly and effectively across a variety of mediums is essential.


You will be responsible for

The successful candidate will:
· Ensure successful system deliveries according to agreed timescales
· Responsible for delivery of development & maintenance releases of Fixed Income eTrading In-house Components
· Working closely with Traders to determine requirements and strategy.
· Interacting with Project Managers and Technical Architects, detailing the design and driving development
· Building and maintaining effective working relationships with key stakeholders

Qualifications :

What you will bring to the role;

To be successful in this role you should have proven experience within the Technology sector with knowledge of the following skills:

Knowledge
·  Object-oriented programming
·  Agile development
·  Development best practices
·  Continuous integration/Continuous Delivery
·  Electronic Trading of Fixed Income products (or related products such as FX or Equities)

Skills
·  Java (extensive years experience and 1.8 version)
·  Good knowledge of data structures, multi-threaded programming, and design patterns
·  TDD
·  Experience in automated testing and using tools such as Junit/Cucumber

Competencies
·  Excellent communication skills, oral and written; ability to face off to business users
·  Exceptional track record of impactful delivery
·  Good team working skills and ability to work in a distributed global team environment
·  Strong analytical and problem solving skills
·  Self-motivated and with determination to achieve goals
·  Flexible and able to deliver quality results in the required timeframe
·  Experience in full lifecycle development
