Front End Developer

Job description

The Front End Developer role is based within Digital Channels.
 
The role of the Front End Developer is to be responsible to contribute to the functional and technical analysis of the business requirements, design, develop, code, test and document new functions and changes to existing applications within a team. Provide technical and general assistance to junior and other members of the development team. The job holder will be responsible for the development of a major new subsystem, a major enhancement to an existing system or regional implementation of HSBC core systems.
 
Your responsibilities will includes:
Apply in depth Web Technologies technical experience in the development of high quality applications/systems as per the requirement, on time and to Group and local standards.
Design and document systems in accordance with user requirements, which make the most efficient usage of the infrastructure.
Ensure existing systems are maintained
Define and govern quality standards
Working directly with the business to determine UX goals whilst driving a number of tactical improvements in the Digital offerings at HSBC
Driving quality and timely delivery of software in an Agile environment.
Supporting the use of standard development methodologies and quality assurance processes
Ensuring UX development supports business objectives and the Technology Architecture
Future State to standardize and simplify the associated application portfolio over time.
Leading Engineering discipline within Channels, Managing large scale development project teams and developing skills within the engineering teams

Desired profile

The ideal candidate for this role will have:
Hand coded HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript
Experience with “mobile first” development:  responsive design, media queries and progressive enhancement.
Cross platform development: understanding device capacities and limitations of various devices and browsers. Experience working with IE8 is desirable
Web accessibility and usability
Familiarity with some common Frontend frameworks and libraries such as jQuery, underscore, backbone, Angular, Dojo, Bootstrap, Foundation etc.
Good inter-personal and communication skills
Working knowledge of source control software such as GIT or SVN
Past working experience in a relevant role, financial experience is preferable but not essential
 
In addition to the details listed above, the ideal candidate will be an experienced developer with strong communication skills and a deep understanding of JAVA/J2EE and Digital Technologies, Websphere Servers and Internet based applications and systems.
 
The base location for this role is London
- 8 Canada Square or Park Street.
