Job description

Role Purpose


Help develop and implement Group-wide standards and policies on reputational risk and client selection consistently across the EMEA region at the direction of the Global Reputational Risk Management function.

Primary responsibility for managing reputational risk within HBEU through the regional and country-level Reputational Risk and Client Selection Committees, however work closely with MENA Head of Reputational Risk Management to produce EMEA-level view of reputational risk matters for EMEA senior management.

Represent the Reputational Risk Management function at relevant regional-level risk committees and meetings.

Serve as an advisor to the Regional Lines of Business and the Regional Compliance functions and managers, applying expert knowledge in the specialised area of reputational risk.

Work with the Global Reputational Risk Policy and Client Selection Team and the RRCS Secretariats to ensure efficient progression of reputational risk matters from trigger to execution. 

Identify emerging reputational risk issues and address or escalate as appropriate.

Produce standardized reports and MI on reputational risk management cases handled within the region.

Identify regional training needs on reputational risk and serve as a trainer when necessary.

Support the Global FCC and RC functions in the achievement of strategic, tactical and operational objectives.

Impact on the Business


Help drive the delivery of strategic standards and policies to ensure that the Group’s exposure to reputational risk in the EMEA region is managed in a commercially sensitive, practical and cost-effective manner. 

As subject matter expert, be point of authority and   provide advice and support on reputational matters and client selection policy to EMEA senior management, the regional FCC/RC sub-functions, and the regional elements of the global businesses and provide direction to others with reputational risk and client selection responsibilities.

Attend and contribute actively to meetings of committees charged with deliberating on reputational risk matters relating to the EMEA region. Help ensure that discussions take account of wider impacts relating to the Group and to other businesses and regions.

Review management information material in order to identify emerging reputational risk and client relationship issues and decide how they should be addressed and/or escalated. Advise the Global Reputational Risk Management team of such issues and their potential impact.

Review and contribute to regional risk metrics to ensure reputational risk is coherently reflected across the region.

Support the Global Reputational Risk Management Team as directed through the provision of reports and papers and conducting of research related to reputational risk matters.
 
Customers/Stakeholders
 


Work with Regional Heads of FCC/ RC collaboratively, inputting expertise to help devise and implement effective strategies for managing reputational risk matters within the region. 

Serve as a subject matter expert on industry-accepted best practices in managing reputational risk, providing direction, advice and guidance to regional management teams as they discharge their responsibilities consistent with HSBC’s risk appetite.

Support the Regional Heads of FCC and RC in the provision of reports on a region-wide basis to the various committees which have responsibilities for reputational risk, client selection and Compliance matters.

Ensure that the Global Head of Reputational Risk Management and regional executives are appropriately advised of material reputational risk matters.

Help the Group work effectively with regulators, non-governmental organisations and industry bodies in the region on reputational and Compliance matters to ensure that the Group’s interests are protected and professional and positive relationships are fostered.

Work closely with the Line of Business Heads of Reputational Risk Management in managing caseload and escalations to Group governance committees

Work with the business lines and the LoB Heads of RRCS Secretariats to provide advisory support on cases and quality assurance over papers and reports to be submitted to the various governance committees and meetings. 
Leadership and Teamwork
 


Work closely with Regional Heads of FCC and RC  and other executives in delivering/cascading relevant global policies and procedures, providing guidance and support during periods of change, and ensuring the implementation and embedding of LoB policies and procedures at a regional level.

Lead and contribute to the activity of the region’s management of reputational risks, ensuring that suitable training is in place.

Foster positive and professional working relationships with FCC/RC, the Global Reputational Risk Management Team, the Global Reputational Risk Policy and Client Selection Team and other executives throughout the region, providing guidance through periods of change. 

Help develop and deliver the reputational risk elements of a Learning and Development strategy for the Global Compliance function, and devise/undertake reputational risk and client selection training for other executives and functions as necessary. Monitor effectiveness of training at the regional level.
 
Operational Effectiveness and Control


Be creative/innovative in implementing Group policies relating to reputational risk management.

Provide solutions to complex regional reputational risks in an ever-changing, high-risk environment.

Approve the schedule for, and oversee, the monitoring of the implementation of reputational risk and CSEM policies at regional FCC/RC level.

Oversee the monitoring of adherence to the reputational risk and CSEM elements of relevant policies and procedures in the region

Deliver expert analysis to executives on the contents and identified issues within Compliance exception reports, identifying and recommending remedial action, including policy changes and training, to the Global Head of Reputational Risk Management.

Undertake ad-hoc projects, reviews and monitoring visits requested by the Global Head of Reputational Risk Management and/or the Regional Heads of FCC and RC.
 
 
 

Desired profile

Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications 


Experienced professional with experience gained within the financial services industry.

Able to demonstrate expertise in the field of reputational risk management and gain the confidence of management and colleagues.

Broad knowledge of Compliance operations and requirements and the Group’s businesses and structure.

Experience in roles where successfully mitigating reputational risk is evident.

Proven ability to exercise sound judgement, based on expert knowledge of reputational risk and client relationships. Seen as a point of authority within the region.

Lateral thinker/problem solver working in a complex environment where there are frequently conflicts to be resolved.

Excellent communicator with strong inter-personal, influencing and relationship-building skills.

A self-starter with the ability to organise/prioritise effectively.

Attention to detail.
