Job Purpose
HSBC operates across four Global Businesses (GB's) which are supported by Global Functions (GF's). HSBC Technology is based within the HSBC Operations, Services and Technology (HOST) function. The IT Architecture department sits within HSBC Technology and the Domain Architect (Data) job is based in the Data Architecture team. The Data Architecture team are accountable for the technical definition and implementation of our Group Data Architecture strategy and associated standards.
The Domain Architect (Data) role is a global architecture role traversing horizontally across all GB's and GF's. The job reports to a Principal Domain Architect (Data) and is accountable for the implementation of the Group Data Architecture strategy.
The Domain Architect (Data) takes responsibility for delivery of a number of architecture activities. The job holder leads the design and development of architectures, which are aligned with group standards, IT and business strategy, meet business objectives and satisfy all relevant regulatory and operational risk controls. The Domain Architect (Data) is responsible for participating and assuring the operation of the global practice of architecture within their relevant area.

Data has been identified as a key focal area for HSBC. Externally, regulatory initiatives are mandating the organisation to instil significant improvements to our Data Management practices and controls. Regulation such as BCBS 239 (risk reporting), ELC 35 (entity-level controls), and GDPR (data protection) have necessitated organisations to put data at the heart of their organisation.
The Domain Architect (Data) is responsible for:
• A number of data domains for example: data and business modelling, document management/content services, reference data and cloud data architecture.
• Using industry foresight and experience to support the implementation of the Technology 2020 strategy and Group Data Architecture strategy.
• Providing thought-leadership and technical expertise to define blueprints (e.g. principles, standards and patterns) and product roadmaps that enable the consistent enterprise adoption of the defined strategy.
• Providing technical expertise and collaborating with GB's and GF's to determine their technology needs / demands through understanding of their use cases and associated requirements.
• Identifying the common technical capabilities required to implement the strategy.
• Faciltating decision-making and making recommendations for enterprise technology solutions to deliver the identified technical capabilities, including assisting with new technology proof of concept's to test functionality and suitability of a product / design.
• Influencing and persuading GB and GF stakeholders to embed data capabilities within their enterprise architecture strategies and roadmaps. Providing project consultancy as requested by the architecture domain, software delivery and / or business.
• Managing vendor relationships at a technical level and driving functionality and benefit to HSBC through automating of existing processes to drive efficiency in the domain.
• Articulating and managing architectural risks and issues and adhering to architectural governance.
• Leading Solution Architects and technical experts to drive improvement and efficiency in data management across data modelling, content services, reference data and data refining.
• Engaging with development and engineering teams to ensure that the architectural strategy is realised within our technical delivery functions.
• Supporting the delivery of a holistic and integrated Group Data Architecture strategy.
Major Challenges
• HSBC is a large multi-national corporation operating across a number of Global Businesses and Global Functions. Each GB / GF and geographic location will have their own priorities and agendas. It will be necessary for the role holder to collaborate and obtain buy-in from stakeholders across the organisation to effectively execute within their role.
• The data landscape within HSBC is highly complex. The role holder will be required to quickly gain an excellent understanding of the existing landscape as well as engaging GB's / GF's to determine their change agenda.
• HSBC are in the growth stage of implementing their Cloud first strategy. The role holder is likely to encounter significant complexity and challenge in their role in defining solutions that are implementable across the organisation and which satisfies stringent regulatory requirements.

• Budget control: This role will have no budget responsibility.
• Commercial Influence: This role will have influence over the technology spend within the data domain/portfolio.
