Role purpose 

Head of Currents Accounts. The purpose of this role is to lead and manage the current account business to achieve financial, operational, regulatory and strategy objectives. This includes overseeing the P&L to ensure profitability and reaching our yearly goals, maintaining regulatory compliance, and ensuring that our products are competitive and aligned with customers’ needs.

The role is critical in reaching targeted EOP and Average balances and income goals while overseeing processes and controls related to account management, pricing strategies, and risk management. A key aspect will be identifying and capitalizing on opportunity areas, particularly in enhancing our digital originated accounts.

Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities

 

 

·         Responsible for 6.3M active currents accounts and over 5.7B balances

·         Accountable for pricing and process DDA fees ($68M USD 2024)

 

Leadership & Teamwork 

·         Strategic Vision and Direction: Set a clear vision and strategic direction for the growth and optimization of the current account portfolio and the customer experience, aligning initiatives with broader HSBC goals.

·         Empowering teams: Foster a culture of empowerment and accountability among team members, enabling them to achieve personal and professional growth.

·         Cross-functional collaboration: Lead cross-functional initiatives by collaborating with operation, risk and control, channels, legal, data and analytics and marketing teams to drive integrated solutions for customers’ needs.

·         Digital transformation: Spear digital transformation initiatives, including E2E onboarding processes and customer journey enhancements.

·         Inclusive culture: Build a culture of inclusivity and transparency within the team.

Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with global stakeholders to ensure alignment on strategic objectives and secure sponsorship for key projects. 

Requirements

Functional Knowledge

 

·         Product expertise In Current Accounts: Deep understanding of the features, benefits, processes, and competitive positioning of current account products, ensuring they meet customer needs while aligning with regulatory requirements.

·         Digital Banking Solutions: Proficient in digital banking platforms and technologies, including digital onboarding, mobile banking apps, and online account management, to enhance customer accessibility and engagement.

·         Data Analytics and Insights: Ability to leverage data analytics for product performance monitoring and customer behavior analysis, using insights to inform product strategies and tailor customer experiences.

·         Financial Acumen: Proficient in understanding and managing P&L drivers for current accounts, including pricing strategies, fee structures, and cost management to optimize profitability.

·         Market Trends and Competitive Landscape: Awareness of industry trends, customer behavior shifts, and the competitive landscape in the financial services sector, enabling proactive adjustments to product and service offerings.
