The role Overview

The role of the DevOps Engineer is to work within the Infrastructure DevOps team to deploy and operate GFX HSBC services.

Key duties include:
·
Infrastructure Systems Administrator for a DevOps infrastructure delivery role; configuring, delivering and supporting OS and DBs server environments and services.

·
Work across one or more application development DevOps ‘pods' to consume and deploy centrally provided services from Distributed Compute.

·
Responsible for innovation in infrastructure and implementation of new technologies and the on-going support of hardware and software solutions across both live and non-live environments.

·
Deliver and provide technical support for ITID technologies while conforming to high quality standards and best practices, maintaining and improving SLA's, and ensuring compliance to HSBC policies at all times.

·
Actively participate to achieve organisation objectives for efficiency. Perform pro-active analysis on day-to-day work to obtain automation on deliveries thereby reducing repetitive and standardised tasks/processes.

·
Advise on Infrastructure design, development and best practice for OS and DB's, throughout project lifecycles from build through to ITSA and implementation processes.

·
Write scripts to automate and streamline BAU tasks. Building automation capabilities to support the execution of operational activities.

·
Draft and maintain standards and procedures for service component capacity management. Ensures the correct implementation of standards and procedures.

·
Pro-actively review information in conjunction with service level agreements to identify any capacity issues and specify any required changes. Work with application teams to agree and implement short and medium term modifications to demand.

·
Asses, analyse, develop, document and implement changes based on requests for change. Understanding of functional requirements and translation of business requirements into technical specifications

·
Provide troubleshooting support in incident and perform root cause analysis to prevent problems happening. Appropriate measures are taken to improve and sustain high quality and prevent recurrence.

·
Provide consultancy, guidance and collaborate with other infrastructure, application, support and engineering teams.

Desired profile

Qualifications :

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

Essential Experience

· 
Proficiency in Linux server admin skills (i.e. RHEL), 3-5 years' experience is a must. SLES, Solaris x86 & SPARC is desirable. Should possess industry standard certifications for UNIX domain.

·  Proficiency in Sybase DBA.
· 
Demonstrable experience of Linux administration and architecture, including knowledge of volume managers, multipathing and kernel parameter tuning.

· 
Demonstrable experience of scripting (shell / perl / python, puppet, Ansible, Vagrant) with automation skills.

· 
Excellent knowledge and troubleshooting of Veritas Volume manager and Veritas Cluster Server is required.

· 
Strong infrastructure background with experience with IBM and HP x86 hardware and virtualisation platforms (VMware, Citrix, Hyper-V).

· 
Knowledge of storage infrastructure with experience of configuring filesystems on NAS storage and EMC SAN solutions, both standalone and clustered, including replication.

· 
Knowledge of network infrastructure (Cisco, TCP/UDP, LAN/WAN, GSS, F5, VIPs, Firewalls).

· 
Significant experience of working in a major enterprise environment and or experience operating in highly regulated industry, e.g. Financial Services.

· 
Experience of DevOps tools and configuration management (Ansible / Puppet / Chef).

Should be well versed with ITIL concepts and more specific understanding of Service operations activities.

·  Able to work independently to meet deadlines and under pressure.

Passion for technology, work closely with application teams and understanding their application environments and services.

Experience with other ITID technologies such as Middleware (WebSphere, Apache HTTP Server & Tomcat, IIS and MQ) and Databases (Oracle, Oracle RAC, MS SQL, Sybase & DB2).

·  Experience of other technologies is desirable:
·  Enterprise Application integration
·  Programming in Java/ Java GUI, XML/ XSLT, HTML/ Java Script
·  Market Data (RMDS, 29West, Wombat, Solarflare)
·  Grid and coherence
·  Trading Technologies and ISVs
·  End to end agile infrastructure architecture across all layers
