Job description
The DB2 Database Administrator role is based within The IT Operations Database (ITO) domain under Enterprise Services and Architecture (ES&A) provides the design, development and deployment of (development) database solutions to globally agreed standards. Its purpose and vision are to deliver an efficient and cost-effective service through standardisation and effective prioritisation of work for the global business.
The database domain provides industry and Group standard Relational Database Management Systems, Business Intelligence, Data Warehouse and Big Data technologies.
2 Database Administrator will be responsible for designing, building, monitoring, troubleshootings, tuning and maintaining HSBC DB2 LUW development databases. Maintain and improving SLAs and ensure compliance to HSBC policies at all times. When required provide out-of-hours support for DB2 LUW environments - approx. 1-in-6 weeks on-call rota at 2nd line, supported by a strong 1st line team..

The role holder will receive cross training between various other Database technologies.
Your responsibilities will include:
Lead internal infrastructure projects to improve or implement new DB2 technologies, standards and procedures.
Provision of support and assistance to development teams in the design, development, testing, tuning and implementation of DB2 database applications including provision of such development and testing environments that are required.
Consult colleagues across the organisation to develop best-in-class DB2 policies, standards and procedures.
Document best practices, guidelines, and training information
Develop and regularly provide summary information to the management team, both to communicate progress and to facilitate easy identification of any issues.
Grow the internal private cloud shared developer services and the more traditional Global services platforms (GSDE).
Desired profile
The ideal candidate for this role will have:
Relevant product knowledge including knowledge of DB2 LUW
Experience working in relevant environment/s, i.e. Unix (Linux or Solaris or AIX)
Experience working in relevant environment/s, i.e. ETL, Business Intelligence, Analytical Services, Data Manipulation is desirable but not essential
Experience working in relevant market/context, i.e. Financial Sector is desirable but not essential
Past working experience in a relevant role, i.e. Database Administration, DBA, Business Intelligence is desirable but not essential
Past working experience on relevant systems, i.e. Any database technologies is desirable but not essential
Experience of using relevant software packages, i.e. SQL (DML , DDL, DCL), Putty is desirable but not essential
Previous experience of delivering an excellent customer service
Both spoken and written communication skills with experience of adapting your style and approach to the audience and message to be delivered
Contributed productively to team objectives, sometimes supporting and sometimes leading activities to achieve shared goals
Experience of planning and prioritising their own time effectively, aware of their responsibilities and committed to delivering these efficiently
Supported project teams/managers, showing an understanding of the basic principles of project management
In addition to the details listed above, the ideal candidate will demonstrate strong and logical analytical skills alongside the ability to accurately prioritise work and deliver consistently to agreed Service Levels.
