Job description
The Data Analyst role is based within The Analytics Centre of Excellence, RBWM UK and the team provides in depth, regular and ad-hoc analysis to various stakeholders typically within Customer Value Management covering Product, Customer and Channel Analytics teams. Our work covers all three UK brands (HSBC, first direct and M&S Bank) and is used to give the Customer Value Management team a detailed understanding of how products are performing, and how our customers use our products and interact with the Bank. Part of the UK CVM team and also Global Analytics Centre of Excellence the Customer Analytics, the team are in high demand both in the UK and also globally as HSBC Advance and growing the first direct business remain major areas of focus for HSBC.
The role of the Data Analyst is to analyse data and report on findings. Working with business partners across UK CVM and Group, the team helps drive strategic decision making through analysis of customer behaviour across HSBC Advance, First Direct and M&S Bank and proposition development for HSBC, first direct and M&S Bank. Other areas of focus include, developing and maintaining core analytical dimensions such as customer level income across the three brands.
This role works in a Global Centre of Excellence; with other analytics teams across the world. There is a real opportunity to influence stakeholders and make business decisions based on findings.
Your responsibilities will include:
Analysing the results to turn data into insight
Querying large and complex databases containing customer, product and channel data
Presenting findings and making recommendations to stakeholders
Desired profile
The ideal candidate for this role will have:
Experience of using relevant software packages, i.e. Excel
Past working experience in a relevant role, i.e. large complex databases is desirable but not essential
Past working experience on relevant systems, i.e. SAS is desirable but not essential
A track record of gaining an understanding of customers' needs and delivering excellent customer service
A flexible and adaptable approach to change and will support others to respond in a similar way
Achieved targets and met expectations whilst supporting and encouraging others to do the same
Experience of supporting others' performance, enabling them to achieve by providing clear direction, motivation and support
Both spoken and written communication skills with experience of adapting your style and approach to the audience and message to be delivered
Planned projects and activities systematically in line with business priorities, using a variety of analysis and problem solving techniques

Have good inter-personal skills; be able to deliver work within tight timescales and manage time effectively
Understand complex business requirements and provide analytical solutions
Have commercial understanding and a Customer focused outlook

The base location for this role is Sheffield or Chester.
