Job description

The Customer Due Diligence (CDD) Level 1 Approver is based within the Middle Office Team undertaking CDD approval for non-relationship managed customers. The role ultimately reports into Commercial Banking (CMB) Chief Operating Officer.

The role of the Customer Due Diligence (CDD) Level 1 approver will be key in ensuring high quality Know Your Customer (KYC) reviews are completed for existing HSBC customers.

The role is integral to the execution of the Customer Due Diligence (CDD) process for low, medium and high risk rated cases. The job holder should demonstrate strong KYC knowledge and financial crime detection and mitigation skills but also be invested in the sharing of knowledge and expertise with colleagues in earlier stages of the process. The CDD process is a fast-paced environment: receptivity to change and a capacity to quickly comprehend and apply new regulatory requirements or bank policy changes is desired.

Your responsibilities will include:
· Review of case information provided by KYC Operations Teams, Case Management Teams and customer, feeding back and resolving any issues. This will include discussions with other departments to ensure effective engagement and sharing of information.
· Ensures timely completion of Know Your Customer (KYC) review(s) ensuring we retain quality customers and exit those outside of our risk appetite
· Act as an Subject Matter Expert (SME) and through one-on-one coaching support the development and up skilling of case managers in earlier stages of the process to improve the quality of the submission to Level 1 approvers
· Utilise a risk aware approach and prudent judgment to assess financial crime risks presented by the customers under review; select appropriate actions and make evidence-based decisions to exit or approve the files
· As required, undertake specific ‘over and above' project work to make a significant contribution to the continuous improvement of the CDD process.

Desired profile

Qualifications :

The ideal candidate for this role will have the below experience and qualifications:
·  Experience working in relevant environments, i.e. A fast paced environment and be used to working volumes or cases with a quality approach at all times
·  Experience working in relevant market, context, i.e. Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Know Your Customer (KYC) or Global Standards experience
·  Experience of using relevant software packages, i.e. MS-Office, especially MS-Excel and be able to quickly learn bank systems including newly implemented Global Standards tools
·  Both spoken and written communication skills with experience of sharing information effectively, in a clear, concise and professional manner
·  Both spoken and written communication skills with experience of adapting your style and approach to the audience and message to be delivered
·  Experience of making prompt and practical business decision, even in times of ambiguity, considering various perspectives and taking responsibility for outcomes
·  Planned projects and activities systematically in line with business priorities, using a variety of analysis and problem solving techniques
·  A comprehensive understanding of the regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements associated with financial services and experience of working within these
·  Used their business knowledge and understanding of customer needs to successfully manage and grow customer relationships
In addition to the details listed above, the ideal candidate will have a track record of:
·  Understanding of organisations' structures, objectives, and operations for some or all of the following: charities, other non-profit organisations, sole traders, partnerships and companies limited by shares or guarantee.
·  Able to present proof of an analytical nature and a critical faculty utilized to deliver informed and evidence-based decisions and conclusions
·  The CDD process is a fast-paced environment: receptivity to change and a capacity to quickly comprehend and apply new regulatory requirements or bank policy changes is desired.
·  Experience working in relevant environments, i.e. Commercial Banking is desirable but not essential
