Job description
The Credit Risk Analyst role is based within The Wholesale Credit Risk team based in 8 Canada Square, London.
This role will be responsible for preparation and analysis of credit risk data to support development, validation and monitoring of the credit risk models within HSBC Bank plc
- UK Bank / Retail bank (HBEU) Wholesale Retail Risk Analytics (RRA) team. The initial focus will mainly be related to supporting International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS 9) methodology development; however work related to other areas (such as Advanced Internal Risk Based (AIRB) models or Stress Testing) may also be required.
The role holder will need to develop a good understanding of risk data flows from customer and product systems through to the finance and regulatory reporting systems. They will need to work with finance, business and other risk teams in order to produce portfolio and impact analysis as well as User Acceptance Testing (UAT). Responsibility also includes implementation support for the proposed credit risk methodology and/or models.
IFRS 9 Project has tight deadlines and several models & methodologies have to be delivered which cover multiple regions within HBEU. This will require significant amount of data extraction which is required to be accurate to support the development of reliable risk parameters. The project also requires significant work related to impact analysis, implementation support and UAT testing.
Role has a challenge of converging to global model consistency.
This role, having a lot of contacts with the stakeholders must be able to translate and present technical work into more acceptable form in order to get the stakeholders’ buy in.

Your responsibilities will include:
Manage bank’s credit risk data to ensure that risk parameters and models accurately reflect the credit risk of wholesale lending portfolios. Data management is a fundamental stone in developing accurate quantitative models.
Support IFRS 9 methodology development through sourcing consistent and reliable data from bank’s credit, risk and finance systems.
Design impact analyses for the calculation of Expected Loss (EL) and provisions under the new IFRS 9 accounting standards. Source accurate portfolio data to undertake impact analyses
Develop and test complex programs and prototypes according to business specifications and support implementation of IFRS methodology and models.

- the jobholder will work with Global Risk Analytics team on data request and reporting in the context of IFRS9.
Finance – the jobholder will work with Regional and Global finance teams on the provision of regulatory requests for model related data.
Business – the jobholder will work with the wholesale business teams on both model related impact analysis and on regulatory data requests.
IT and change management – the jobholder will work with IT to understand data linkages and to propose improvements in data quality.
Desired profile
The ideal candidate for this role will have:
Relevant product knowledge including knowledge of Excellent understanding of Wholesale Credit Risk
Experience working in relevant market/context, i.e. Experience in Credit Risk related Data and Analysis
Role relevant qualifications, i.e. Master in Maths (or equivalent)/Science/Engineering discipline)
Past working experience in a relevant role, i.e. Excellent understanding of credit risk related data
Experience of using relevant software packages, i.e. SAS, Excel/VBA, SQL
Relevant product knowledge including knowledge of Knowledge of Credit Risk Modelling (Probability of Default (PD)/ Loss given at Default (LGD)/ Exposure at Default (EAD)) is desirable but not essential
Experience working in relevant market/context, i.e. Experience in Credit Risk Modelling (PD/LGD/EAD) is desirable but not essential
Role relevant qualifications, i.e. Financial Risk Manager certification program by GARP, Chartered Financial Analyst is desirable but not essential
Past working experience in a relevant role, i.e. IFRS 9 modelling, BASEL II, Capital Requirements Directive IV is desirable but not essential
Experience of using relevant software packages, i.e. Matrix Laboratory (MATLAB), R is desirable but not essential
