Job description

The Credit Review Officer role is based within Europe Risk.

The Credit Review Team reviews and undertakes Credit Reviews (both by field visits or remotely) of European sites, UK Global Banking & Markets Teams & the European Corporate Banking Centre (UK CMB).

The role of the Credit Review Officer is to protect & enhance shareholder value by providing an ongoing independent assessment of judgemental credit including the quality of the portfolios, risk management & control, the accuracy of Customer Risk Ratings (CRRs) and that Relationship Managers have adhered to Group standards and policies in managing their relationships.

There will be extensive national and international travel largely within Europe in order conduct reviews and assist local management across the HBEU Region.

There will be extensive international travel (within Europe) in order conduct reviews and assist local management across the Region.

Your responsibilities will include:
· Regular credit reviews of credit businesses on a risk based approach to ensure standards are maintained in terms of quality of credit assessment processes and risk management controls and that CRRs are correctly assigned.
· Provide balanced, factual feedback to key stakeholders on issues identified within key sectors, countries and risk profiles during Field and Remote reviews.
· Add value via identification of emerging risk trends and maintenance of risk quality and portfolio performance.
· Ensure timely responses to business units in line with agreed timescales.
· Maintain continued effectiveness of the Credit Review process.
· Liaise with internal audit as required.
· Provide help & guidance to less experienced Credit Review Officers and Relationship Managers in the business.
· Maintain a risk based system to aid in the scheduling of reviews
· Complete other projects and responsibilities, as assigned.
· Improvement of credit & operational quality standards by ensuring adherence to the Bank's stated credit & risk policies, approval terms & conditions & operational procedures.
· Maintain awareness of policy & procedural changes as they affect the role & recommend changes in review policy as appropriate.
· Maintain cost discipline.
· Ensure a “Best Practice” ethos is maintained within the Team.

Desired profile

Qualifications :

The ideal candidate for this role will have:
·  The jobholder must have excellent credit skills and awareness of credit control procedures used within the Group.
·  Experience of working in relevant environments, i.e. sound knowledge of HSBC Group, particularly within a credit or lending role is essential.
·  Past working experience in a relevant role, i.e. able to demonstrate practical customer facing wholesale credit skills on both transactional and credit process management levels.
·  A track record of making complex business/credit decisions with authority, even in times of ambiguity, considering the potential long term risks and implications.
·  Handled complex lending effectively with an in-depth understanding of lending processes, products and their associated risks.
·  A comprehensive understanding of risk management and proven experience of ensuring own, others' compliance with relevant regulatory and credit processes
·  Availability to undertake the extensive travel required for this role, i.e. availability to undertake travel commensurate with a regional role.
·  Past working experience and knowledge of Group systems, e.g. Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook is desirable but not essential.
·  Excellent written and spoken communication skills; an ability to communicate with impact, ensuring complex information is articulated in a meaningful way to wide and varied audiences, including senior stakeholders.
·  Contributed productively to team objectives, sometimes supporting and sometimes leading activities to achieve shared goals.
·  Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.

The base location for this role is 8 Canada Square, London.
