Job description



This position analyzes commercial real estate lending opportunities submitted by the origination team in Los Angeles (and possibly other regions from time to time). Prepares cash flow and underwriting valuations with a focus on large complex transactions, including construction loans, bridge loans, acquisition loans, renovation/reposition financing and syndications for national and international clients. Assists relationship managers with underwriting memoranda and pitch books. May participate in client prospecting and meetings. Assists with portfolio management, customer service, and assisting more experienced underwriters along with relationship managers. Assists senior management with special assignments.

Impact on the Business

· Respond to requests for property valuation and cash flow analysis for real estate loan proposals from major international and domestic owner/operators and developers. Properties are located throughout the United States, with particular focus on the major cities and the Western US.
· Prepare independent, reliable estimates of potential cash flow and current underwriting values used to screen and evaluate office, multifamily, hotel, and retail properties located throughout the US. Ensure timely and complete presentation of cash flow models and value estimates to support the credit decision process and determine whether there will be sufficient cash flow to repay the loan.
· Determine prospective loan to value, debt yield, and other key metrics for credit approval submission.
· Assist with preparation of underwriting memoranda and pitch books. Participate in meetings/calls with senior management and assist with client prospecting. Join client and broker meetings from time to time.

Customers / Stakeholders

· Conduct property inspections of prospective new properties and those secured by existing loans to determine the level of maintenance and overall property condition.

Leadership & Teamwork

· Develop and maintain a ready and available source of sales and market data on a local and national basis to support underwriting assumptions and activities. Cross-train to complete annual reviews as required Assist relationship managers and senior management with special assignments and prospecting efforts from time to time.

Operational Effectiveness & Control Major Challenges

· Market Trends - Since this position underwrites various property types in major markets and submarkets nationwide, knowledge of constantly changing market trends and forecasts is an essential part of accurate underwriting projections.
· Appraisal Evaluation - When third party appraisals arrive at different conclusions to the position's evaluations, this position must be able to objectively evaluate the appropriateness of amending the valuation based on appraisal information or disputing the appraiser's conclusions based on factual data and analysis.
· Underwriting Volume - The volume of underwriting requests is often heavy. The most complicated real estate transactions are assigned to the position, necessitating concentrated and precise underwriting techniques.

Desired profile



Qualifications :

·  Minimum of one year proven and progressive commercial real estate and multifamily underwriting experience in Los Angeles or and/or other major national markets.
·  Bachelor's degree in Business, Real Estate, Finance, Economics or related field or equivalent experience.
