Job description

The Business Steering Manager role is based within business steering, business performance.
 
The role of the Business Steering Manager driving the implementation of the 2015 plan across structure, Revenue, Cost and IT Orderbook, working with the RBWM (Retail Banking Wealth Management) leadership board to drive the implementation across channels and brands.
 

Within this Business Steering Department,  you are able to see a holistic view of UK RBWM from a cross product / cross brand view. Furthermore, as owners of the UK RBWM Target Operating model you are allowed access to the framework for UK RBWM and how each function within RBWM operates. Business Performance was voted the most engaged department within UK RBWM based on the Organisational Health index. This is due to our cross site Business Performance engagement champions. There are two within each team in Business Performance. The champions get together on a bi-monthly basis to discuss the various events and activities we can undertake throughout the year to keep our employees within Business Performance engaged. 
 
Your responsibilities will include:

Implementing, managing and supervising the TBM/TOM by working across multiple channels and brands
Ensuring activity across RBWM is fully coordinated through the active management of a series of runways (cross channels and brands) which will join up RBWM business and provide a top down view to the RBWM Leadership Team
Ensuring RBWM has appropriate internal controls in place with its internal service providers, and leading discussions with these service providers to ensure RBWM receives the best possible service on a regular basis
Working closely with RBWM business areas to continually drive sustainable cost saves across the business and to hold principle overview of cost reduction within RBWM
Identifying where there is a deviation from plan, and leading discussions and working closely with key stakeholders to agree and drive corrective action

Desired profile

The ideal candidate for this role will have:

Experience working in relevant environment/s, i.e. Knowledge of RBWM organisation, processes, technologies, challenges and strategies
Experience working in relevant market/context, i.e. proven success of engaging with senior managers
Experience of using relevant software packages, i.e. intermediate Excel and PowerPoint
Availability to undertake the travel required for this role, i.e. 10-15% of your time will be spent travelling in and around the UK
Experience working in relevant environment/s, i.e. Working knowledge of the RBWM Target Business Models (TBM) / Target Operating Model (TOM) is desirable but not essential
Experience working in relevant market/context, i.e. Organisational, planning, interpersonal, management, negotiation, consultative and verbal and written communication skills is desirable but not essential
Past working experience in a relevant role, i.e. that has involved matrix management and / or management consultancy is desirable but not essential
A track record of constantly looking for ways to do things better and an excellent understanding of the mechanism necessary to successfully implement change
Set and achieved challenging short, medium and long term goals which exceeded the standards in their field
Excellent written and spoken communication skills; an ability to communicate with impact, ensuring complex information is articulated in a meaningful way to wide and varied audiences
Built effective networks across business areas, developing relationships based on mutual trust and encouraging others to do the same 
A track record of making complex business decisions with authority, even in times of ambiguity, considering the potential long term risks and implications
Experience of creating and deploying comprehensive business/operating plans which consistently deliver desired result
A broad understanding of financial budgets/statements/models, with experience of analysing data effectively for planning, forecasting and reporting
A comprehensive understanding of the regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements associated with financial services and experience of working within these
In addition to the details listed above, the ideal candidate will have knowledge of RBWM organisation, approval/governance flows, processes and customer related strategies. Experience of runway management and time critical prioritisation roles is required.
 
The base location for this role is Canary Wharf, London.
