About Retail Banking & Wealth Management

Retail Banking and Wealth Management serves millions of customers worldwide through our branch network, call centres, and digital and mobile banking. We also connect institutional and retail clients with investment opportunities through our Global Asset Management division.

A day in the life of a Business Risk & Control Manager include the following:

The primary focus of this role is to manage and support the operational risk framework within AMCA. This, includes the Risk & Control Assessment (RCA), Internal Control Monitoring Plan (ICMP), business information risk and vendor risk activities.

The jobholder will:
· Support businesses in their management of operational risk through the course of risk assessment, monitoring, control identification, mitigation and measurement.
· Ensure timely and proper attention is paid to operational risk issues in order to minimize potential losses.
Deliver training programs upon request for all levels of business partners.
· Liaise with other business support areas to facilitate operational risk identification and ‘ownership'.
Serve as deputy business information officer (BIRO) for AMCA
Attend other duties as assigned
· Ensure that risks of the following areas are appropriately identified, measured, reported and managed so that business objectives are achieved within the organization's tolerances for risk and in compliance with laws, regulations and internal policies and standards:

Principle Accountabilities:

Internal
· All areas/departments of AMCA (Investment Team, Compliance, Operations, Product, Client Propositions, Institutions, Performance)
· Global Business Risk Colleagues – AMG and AMUS BRCM teams
· Local Business Risk Colleagues – Bank OR, RBWM BRCM, Bank ISR Team
· Internal Audit
External
· Obtain sufficient information from impacted group(s) when potential significant deficiencies or material weaknesses or non-compliance are identified to ensure appropriate investigative groups are engaged; ensure remedial activities are appropriately documented to satisfy external reviews.
· Ensure compliance, operational risk controls in accordance with HSBC or regulatory standards and policies; and optimize relations with regulators by addressing any issues.
· Foster a strong team environment through communication, teamwork and performance
· Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the HSBC brand.
· Ensure that operational controls and procedures remain:
· Compliant with local and regulatory requirements
· Adequate and appropriate as the business grows/changes
· Provide practical guidance on the management of operational risk and the design, implementation and operation of systems of internal control within the unit
· Manages the creation of appropriate reporting for senior management, Risk Management Committee, internal and external auditors and regulators as needed.
· Interacts with management to ensure proper Business Risk program adherence to policy and procedure.
· Reviews Audit reports for follow up of operational risk matters and mitigation.
· Performs monthly review of Key Risk Indicator reports providing feedback to businesses.
· Maintains expertise in specified discipline within business risk (Key risk indicators, losses, risk analysis). Readily shares new information with peers.
· Analyzes data (within specified discipline as well as ‘general' operational risk) offering suggestions for improvement, identifying areas of concerns to appropriate management, and assisting in identifying controls to mitigate potential loss.
· Ensure implementation of Security, Incident Management and Business Continuity policies and procedures throughout the local businesses.
· Ensure access controls such as access revalidation exercises are completed as required.
· Ensure user administration documentation, procedural manuals, and other documentation is developed and maintained as required.
· Apply compliance; internal and operational risk controls in accordance with HSBC or regulatory standards and policies; report issues and operational loss events.
· Ensure that all employees are aware of and effectively identify and manage applicable money laundering (ML), terrorist financing (TF), sanctions and reputational risks.
· Complete other responsibilities, as assigned.

Desired profile

Qualifications :

Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications:
·  Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field.
·  Possess strong knowledge of the financial services and/or investment industry, preferably in a risk, internal audit, compliance, or operations role.
·  Minimum of three years proven and progressive financial services operations, risk and/or internal testing/audit experience or equivalent.
·  High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
·  Proven interpersonal, organizational, communication, negotiation and analytical skills.
·  Strong conceptual understanding of internal controls and the ability to learn and understand work flows and processes.
·  Good working knowledge of HSBC Group standards, manuals and policies.
·  Strong organization skills with proven ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment.
