Role Title: Business Data Architect

Business: Global Asset Management

Role Purpose

· Data Governance Management jobs have responsibility for ensuring data assets are consumed, managed and governed. Data Governance Management jobs will be located in a BAU team which may not be a specialist data team and will have reports which may be Business Analysts, Data specialists or Business managers.
· Reporting lines may be to a senior manager in the field of Information Technology, Data Management and in some cases may be to a senior Project or Programme manager.
· The remit may be country, region or global and the Data Governance Manager will have internal and external stakeholders. External stakeholders may include regulatory bodies.
· Data Governance Management jobs will carry out some or all of the following tasks:

Lead data management and data governance activities, ensuring this data practices comply with regulations of all geographies under remit.

Develop, manage and maintain data standards, policies and methodologies

Develop, manage and ensure data tools and templates are fitting for business needs and comply with regulations

Work with internal stakeholders to determine business needs in the areas of data maintenance, data governance and data architecture.

Manage governance for working groups and decision making forums.

Manage external service providers

· The role holder will support AMG to maximise the understanding of its data and increase its profitability through making sure data is governed efficiently. This includes applying data architecture standards to define and model data, apply an ownership model to ensure accountability, and ensure that data quality is measured, reported and issues remediated.

In additional the role holder will ensure that the AMG Data Strategy is upheld and the Data Design Authority reviews all data sourcing, manufacture and distribution designs to be implemented within AMG.

Key Accountabilities

Impact on Business

· To implement data policy requirements, review and map data content across sites and oversee/progress report on data strategy related projects within AMG.
· Support AMG's integration into HSBC Business Information Model and drive delivery of business artefacts to support this
· Implement the CDO data roadmap, troubleshooting any issues that may arise
· Understand and document data use; data fields and formats from master sources and how this can impact future AMG strategies
· Working closely with Group Business Data Architecture group to help shape up strategies and potential data collection points
· Being a key part of data automation and the setup of Critical Data Entities (CDE)
· Point of contact for Group data related tasks; queries around CDE requirements, leading solution based discussions to mitigate risks and resolve issues
· Drive the organisation, engaging with key stakeholders, aligning to strategic projects associated with re-engineering of the business and organise an appropriate transition to new policies and ensure delivery governance.
· Drive consistency, control and best practice across the regions

Customers / Stakeholders

· Provide updates on progress and ensure appropriate management of the rollout to ensure core deliverables and progress on data dictionaries are communicated to the business.
· Manage and communicate the Data Strategy and how the benefits will be unlocked and sustainable support to business growth assured.
· Build strong relationships with, and influence, senior stakeholders whilst knowing when it is appropriate to flex or stand firm on critical issues.
· Working with the business to develop and implement data policies and map out CDE's

Leadership & Teamwork

· The role holder will work closely with colleagues in the Group Business Data Architects and Data Management Office
· Role holder will need to be able to work effectively across regional and global sites.
· The role holder will also be expected to achieve results without having necessarily the authority to approve use of resources, through influence and persuasion.

Role Requirements

· Data Architecture is a core component of the AMG Data Organisation.
· In conjunction with the AMG Chief Data Officer it is responsible for setting the AMG Data Strategy which calls for the creation of a number of data domain focused data services. The Data Architecture function is responsible for ensuring that the implementation of the services aligns to the original strategy and supporting implementation change teams.
· Additionally the Data Architecture function is helping to establish an AMG Data Analytics capability using Data Science methods and Big Data technologies to provide advancements to AMG across a number of areas – improving Data Quality, more granular and easily aggregated MI tools, automated reporting solutions and in time a machine learning capability.
· The Data Architecture function is also responsible for ensuring that AMG adopts HSBC Group Data Policy standards and implements processes to support the investment in Data Governance made by the Group. This includes helping Data Owners and Stewards to define and model our data assets and drive clear understanding of data sets across AMG.
· Lastly the Data Architecture function supports the AMG Data Design Authority which is the decision making body for all data sourcing designs within AMG. It ensures that the good practices of data design and the AMG Data Strategy are adopted by all change programmes within AMG.
· The role holder will join a small number of Data Architects in London within the AMG Data Organisation and be expected to build relationships across AMG, at all levels. Within the HSBC Group they will work with Data Architects from other lines of business and the Group, and AMG IT.
· Main Duties and Responsibilities

· Work with AMG stakeholders located globally to design data sourcing strategies for functional areas and help present to the Data Design Authority to ensure data is used and governed correctly within AMG

· Work with the AMG Data Analytics function to accurately understand and stitch disparate data sets together to provide accurate and understandable business insights

· Ensure that HSBC Group Data Policy is adopted by AMG

· Provide leadership on data definition work to aid Data Owners and Data Stewards agree the best definitions for our data sets

· Work with Data Stewards to support their work on Data Quality

· Create business conceptual and entity data models to improve understanding of our data and best prepare IT development teams and Data Analytics teams for development activity

· Work with AMG Data change delivery programmes to troubleshoot and ensure alignment with AMG Data Strategy

Management of Risk

· The jobholder will ensure the fair treatment of our customers is at the heart of everything we do, both personally and as an organisation. This will be achieved by consistently displaying the behaviours that form part of the HSBC Values and culture and adhering to HSBC risk policies and procedures, including notification and escalation of any concerns and taking required action in relation to points raised by audit and/or external regulators.
· The jobholder is responsible for managing and mitigating operational risks in their day to day operations. In executing these responsibilities, the Group has adopted risk management and internal control structure referred to as the ‘Three Lines of Defence'. The jobholder should ensure they understand their position within the Three Lines of Defence, and act accordingly in line with operational risk policy, escalating in a timely manner where they are unsure of actions required.
· Through the implementation the Global AML, Sanctions and ABC Policies, supporting Guidance, and Line of Business Procedures the jobholder will make informed decisions in accordance with the core principles of HSBC's Financial Crime Risk Appetite.

· The jobholder has responsibility for overseeing and ensuring that Operational risks are managed in accordance with the Group Standards Manual, Risk FIM, & relevant guidelines & standards. The jobholder should comply with the detailed expectations and responsibilities for their core role in operational risk management through ensuring all actions take account of operational risks, and through using the Operational Risk Management Framework appropriately to manage those risks.
· This will be achieved by:

Continuously reassessing risks associated with the role and inherent in the business, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructurings, and the impact of new technology.

Ensuring all actions take account of the likelihood of operational risk occurring, addressing areas of concern in conjunction with Risk and relevant line colleagues, and also by ensuring that actions resulting from points raised by internal or external audits, and external regulators, are correctly implemented in a timely fashion.

Observation of Internal Controls

· The jobholder will adhere to, and be able to demonstrate adherence to, internal controls and will implement the Group compliance policy by adhering to all relevant processes/procedures.
· The term ‘compliance' embraces all relevant financial services laws, rules and codes with which the business has to comply. This will be achieved by adherence to all relevant procedures, keeping appropriate records and, where appropriate, by the timely implementation of internal and external audit points, including issues raised by external regulators.

· The jobholder will implement measures to contain compliance risk across the business area. This will be achieved by liaising with Compliance department about business initiatives at the earliest opportunity. Also and when applicable, by ensuring adequate resources are in place and training is provided, fostering a compliance culture and optimising relations with regulators.

Desired profile

Qualifications :

Experience / Education

·  Experience of data analysis or data governance roles within an Asset Management firm
·  Specialist subject area such as Financial Instruments or Front Office data concepts from which to show SME skillset
·  Understanding of data modelling practices (E/R, Relational, Data Semantic, Conceptual)
·  Modelling tools such as Visual Paradigm (preferred), Erwin, RSA
·  Business Process Modelling
·  Operating Model development
·  Confidence in data querying in SQL or Oracle databases
·  Visualisation technologies like Tableau (preferred), Qlik or other
·  Working with third party service providers like Amazon Web Services or Google Cloud Platform
·  Proven track record of implementing data governance practices into an organization business unit
·  Ability to work effectively under pressure with competing and rapidly changing priorities
·  Ability to develop cohesive working relationships with internal/external stakeholders
·  Ability to bring analytical rigour and structure and effective solutions to poorly-defined problems
·  Typical qualifications would include a Bachelor's degree / equivalent
·  Experience working with senior stakeholders in a global environment is desirable
