Job description

Role Title: Business Analyst – ICON Projects
Business : HSS Fund Services, UK
New or Existing Role : Existing
Immediate Supervisor : Development Manager, Icon Projects
Location : Fund Services. Edinburgh (1 Lochside Way)

Role Purpose :
HSS Fund Services provides fund administration and accounting services to third party investment managers, pension funds and other HSBC group businesses worldwide. Product Support & Projects, Europe provides global, business-focused operational support for systems owned by Fund Services Europe. Icon Projects is a team within this area developing the Icon accounting and valuation system to meet the evolving needs of the business.

The roleholder is an experienced subject matter expert on Icon and is responsible for the analysis and documentation of new or changing business requirements for Icon processing, the identification, development and testing of system solutions to meet those requirements and the liaison with Operational teams to ensure that business processes are amended in parallel to support the system changes and satisfy the overall requirement.

Key Accountabilities :
· Business analysis
· Analyse business requirement
· Document business requirements
· Undertake requirements walkthroughs, etc. sufficient to validate content and share understanding

· Solution Development
· Identify, assess and document potential solutions
· Undertake solutions walkthroughs, etc. sufficient to validate content and secure approval
· Configure Icon to implement solutions
· Document vendor development requirements (if necessary) and liaise with vendor regarding their development.
· Identify and liaise with other parties impacted by the development (eg upstream and downstream systems)
· Specify any reports or end user applications required to support the overall solution
· Testing
· Design test strategies
· Develop test scripts
· Undertake testing
· Coordinate user testing
· Develop and maintain test logs
· Investigate and resolve test defects
· Obtain required operational approval of testing prior to implementation

· Implementation
· Identify and document operational impact of change
· Work with operations to agree and document revised operational procedures to accommodate the system change
· Train users
· Document implementation instructions for Icon Support and QC implemented changes prior to live
Use
· Liaise with Icon Support to ensure that support procedures, etc. updated to reflect required changes
· Provide post go-live “warranty support” for implemented changes

· Consultancy
· Provide Icon SME consultancy support to operational teams and other projects
· Provide technical advice to clients
· Support new business pitches and prepare system demonstrations, etc.
· Develop colleagues on areas of particular expertise

Management of Risk:
Responsible for the continual assessment of operational risks associated with the role and inherent in the business, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructuring and the impact of new technology.

Demonstrates compliance with HSBC Bank plc Group standards, manuals and policies and adheres to the defined work practices, internal controls and risk management standards associated with the role.

Observation of Internal Controls :
Maintains HSBC internal control standards, including the timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.

Understands, follows and demonstrates compliance with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations and procedures that apply to the conduct of the business activities associated with the role, specifically HSBC Bank plc internal controls and compliance policies and manuals.

Role Dimension
This role supports systems and processes affecting more than 500 system users and around 75 institutional clients

Desired profile

Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications :
Experience
Operational experience of investment administration processes essential.
Business analysis experience of investment administration projects.
Exposure to business testing..

Knowledge/Skills
Strong knowledge of the Icon application
Strong general systems skills
Good knowledge of fund administration
Understanding of investment accounting
Excellent problem solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication and strong negotiation skills
Highly organised, able to work under pressure and deliver to deadlines
Good documentation and knowledge transfer skills

Qualifications
Graduate or equivalent experience.
IAQ Merit Award or other technical investment administration qualification desirable.
