Role Purpose


The role will report to the Manager Sanctions, Client Screening for System Control & Analytics

The positions primary responsibility is providing support to enhance the Sanctions, Client Screening Functions for SCA.

The role will demand a strong aptitude for analyzing data sets to deliver high quality reporting to senior managers.

Types of analysis and reporting may include:

Ensure the timely delivery of IT commitments across multiple regions in an orderly and controlled fashion.

Proven ability to execute complex analytical projects for large customer base.

Exhibit highest standards of ownership & accountability for all projects / initiatives.

Great interpersonal skills & be able to interact with senior stakeholders independently.

Be able to seamlessly shift between a long term strategic projects to more prescriptive adhoc requests.

Responsibility in driving new analytical projects across all products and customer segments across regions.

Responsible for conceptualizing & developing regular Management Information or customer analysis reports in line with the trend in requirements.

Write concise reports with marketing insights supported by solid analytics and logical thinking. Conduct presentations and make recommendations as appropriate to senior management. 
 
 
Key Accountabilities Impact on the Business/Function:


Support the implementation of new regulations into Group, Regional, and Business Line systems and procedures for the Sanctions, Client and Transaction Screening and Customer Risk Scoring functions.

Understanding of Bank Regulatory processes.

Support the execution of initial system configuration and deployment.

Support periodic reviews and on-going refinement by analysis of system configurations and outputs.

Ability to create reports and supporting evidence from database queries.

Ability to interpret and manipulate large data sets to extract trends and identify issues.

Help to identify, design and build new Sanctions, Client and Transaction Screening and Customer Risk Scoring procedures.

Build and maintain close working relationship with business, and stakeholders

Contribute to a robust, sustainable, continuous enhancement and refinement.

Help translate regulatory requirements, as defined by senior Compliance stakeholders, into consistent, efficient, workable processes.

Ensure all documentation is completed with highest quality

Control the monitoring, tracking and resolving of issues, risks and dependencies on analysis, requirements gathering, design and delivery project tasks.

Be aware of changes to business practices and products to ensure that compliance procedures and controls are adequate to cover them.

To monitor and check for adherence to compliance procedures and controls.

Cultivate a positive and collaborative working environment with the Compliance function.

Ability to work and co-ordinate with remote sites.

Build and manage relationships with IT systems CoE

Major Challenges


Making the best use of resources (technology) in the delivery of Compliance Sanctions, Client and Transaction Screening and Customer Risk Scoring support.

Understand and ensure compliance with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations, procedures and Group Standards that apply to disclosures in the business areas covered.

Working with global, regional and business line cross functional SCA teams.

Clearly articulating business and regulatory implications of analysis and findings to both Compliance colleagues and SCA Managers.

Supporting decisions with sound reasoning and rationale and data analysis.

Keeping abreast of all regulatory developments together with changes to Group Standards in order to ensure appropriateness of advice.

Be able to learn new skills and build knowledge quickly.

Working with complex system architecture and data sets.

Handling large volumes of data.

Produce and implement test scenarios to beneficial substantiate changes to parameters for customer risk scoring models.

Translating complex ideas into easily understandable solutions and documentation

Role Context


The position provides the key interface between Risk Software Development and Compliance management for Sanctions, Client and Transaction Screening and Customer Risk Scoring. 

The function owns the change management, governance, delivery and optimisation of the Group’s Sanctions, Client and Transaction Screening and Customer Risk Scoring platforms in line with Group and regional business needs and in support of key regulatory drivers.

Support Group-wide framework for providing consultancy and support to regions and customer groups to proactively identify / elicit / articulate / prioritise emerging business change requirements to maintain and improve the effectiveness of systems.

The nature of the role requires good working relationships with peer analysts in System Control & Analytics in order to cross multiple functions and customer groups to provide full support to Financial Crimes Compliance business initiatives

Support of excellent relationships with internal customers/business areas in respect to their system and data needs.

The jobholder will continually reassess the operational risks associated with the role and inherent in the business, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructurings, and the impact of new technology.

This will be achieved by ensuring all actions take account of the likelihood of operational risk occurring.

Also by addressing any areas of concern in conjunction with line management and/or the appropriate department.

Ensure compliance, operational risk controls in accordance with HSBC or regulatory standards and policies; and optimize relations with regulators by addressing any issues

Observation of Internal Controls


The jobholder will also adhere to and be able to demonstrate adherence to internal controls. This will be achieved by adherence to all relevant procedures, keeping appropriate records and, where appropriate, by the timely implementation of internal and external audit points, including issues raised by external regulators.

The jobholder will implement the Group compliance policy by containing compliance risk in liaison with Global Head of Compliance, Global Compliance Officer, Area Compliance Officer or Local Compliance Officer. The term ‘compliance’ embraces all relevant financial services laws, rules and codes with which the business has to comply.

This will be achieved by adhering to all relevant processes/procedures and by liaising with Compliance department about new business initiatives at the earliest opportunity. Also and when applicable, by ensuring adequate resources are in place and training is provided, fostering a compliance culture and optimising relations

Desired profile

Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications


Proven analytics expertise involving complex high end analytical projects or system development and architecture.

An excellent understanding of the regulatory environment and expectations, FCA rules and guidance together with other relevant regulations, codes of practice and HSBC Group Standards.

University graduate (or equivalent) with experience in tier one banks

Good understanding of the business activities for a large global banking group with diverse operations from retail banking, wealth management, commercial banking, global banking, investments, transaction services, asset management, private banking and insurance

Proven ability to clearly articulate business and regulatory implications of analysis and findings both to Compliance Colleagues and Business Heads

Knowledge of SAS, Qlickview, Spotfire, or similar an advantage

Knowledge of Sanctions screening systems and their optimisation, such as OWS,  a plus

Able to produce and interrogate complex analytical data

Understanding business requirements and ability to convert these into positive systems changes

Ability to create and execute test plans, reviewing system and interface data.

Experience of data analysis with Oracle databases including Structured Query Language (SQL) to analyse large datasets in an action-oriented environment

Excellent analytical skills with a good eye for detail and ability to draw and support conclusions from data trends.

A flexible approach to working with the ability to travel to other entities within HSBC.

Ability to work un supervised at times and direct own work

Proven capabilities in Business Partner relationship management skills at senior levels

Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proven ability to develop and effectively communicate complex concepts and ideas in business terms to peers and management.
