Business: Global Data Services – HTS GBM

Location: Stirling
 
Role Purpose:
Background
 
§ Global Data Services is made up from 3 groups: Global Market Data within HSBC Securities Services, Global Data Operations from GB&M, and Reference Data IT.
 
§ We now comprise over 300 FTEs across 10 locations globally. We have 2 offshore service centres in Bangalore and Kuala Lumpur as well as 2 onshore data service centres in Stirling and Hong Kong
 
§ Our principle objective is to deliver consistent, high quality, accurate data to core strategic processing systems, minimising operational errors and avoiding losses
 
§ The data we manage is intrinsic to the management of a transaction through its lifecycle, and the quality and accuracy of the data is crucial to the successful processing of a transaction and delivery of a high quality service to our customers
 
§ We provide manual and automated data services to a wide variety of business units across the Bank
 
o    Our manual services include set-up and maintenance of security data
- bonds, equities, fixed income, derivatives and many other instrument types in use
 
o    We also provide pricing services
- validation and cleansing of pricing feeds from multiple vendors, delivering a single price for use in delivering valuations for customers
 
o    Our technology services include delivering untouched {pass-through} data such as ratings & calendar data automatically into our customers’ systems
 
o    We also pre-cleanse security information which is then fed automatically from our central data hub, GRDS {Global Reference Data System} into our customers’ systems
 
§ Our data is used all across the trading systems in Global Markets and throughout the Accounting and Valuation and Custody systems in HSS: without our data, we wouldn’t be able to trade, or serve our customers
 
Our strategy is designed to deliver a change in culture: from our previous work aligned to individual divisions, to a more commercial, shared service mindset
 
Key Accountabilities:
 
The role of the Assistant Manager is to provide day-to-day Market Data support for HSS services.
 
To assist in both the research work for Market Data standards, and the proactive investigation required to ensure the business is aware of, and prepared to cope with, changes in market practice and moves into new market areas.
 
 
Specific responsibilities are as follows :
 
§  Provide day-to-day Market Data support to HSS business areas
§  Deputise for GDS Manager
§  Investigate and satisfactorily resolve queries and issues within agreed procedural guidelines
§  Carry out testing of systems as requested for existing Market Data processes
§  Assist with monitoring adherence to Market Data procedures
§  Carry out proactive and reactive research into investment market practices, at instigation of the Manager, assessing the impact on existing Market Data policies and updating/amending these where required
 
 
 
 
§  Identify and propose practical solutions to improve current processes/workstreams
§  Understand the levers and drivers behind business performance
§  Understand how role impacts the team and business performance
§  Suggest improvements to department processes and procedures
§  Demonstrate resilience, initiative and drive under pressure
 
 
 
 
§  Oversee and effectively manage the workload of the team
§  Develop and set standards to increase productivity and reduce errors
§  Support and motivate team to deliver objectives
§  Develop team by conducting on the job training and coaching
§  Responsible for providing input into semi annual and year end appraisal process for team
 
 
 
 
§  Keep up to date with market developments through liaison with relevant information vendors and review of market publications as directed by  Manager
§  Assist in building library of market/industry knowledge. Ensure effective communication.
§  Express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. 
 
 
 
Management of Risk:
Responsible for the continual assessment of operational risks associated with the role and inherent in the business, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructuring and the impact of new technology.
 
Demonstrates compliance with HSBC Bank plc Group standards, manuals and policies and adheres to the defined work practices, internal controls and risk management standards associated with the role.
 
Observation of Internal Controls:
Maintains HSBC internal control standards, including the timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.
 
Understands, follows and demonstrates compliance with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations and procedures that apply to the conduct of the business activities associated with the role, specifically HSBC Bank plc internal controls and compliance policies and manuals.
 

Desired profile

Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications:
 
§  Educated to degree level or hold Investment related qualification (e.g. Securities Institute certificate)
 
§  Extensive experience in a Market Data,  Pricing and Valuations or Corporate Action environment
 
§  Ability to plan and organise workload, taking into account relative priorities
 
§  Ability to work accurately under pressure to tight deadlines
 
§  Strong relationships skills / ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally
 
§  Good knowledge of international investment markets
 
§  Excellent knowledge of Reuters, Bloomberg and relevant data feeds
 
§  Flexible approach to working hours and environment
