Role Title: Assistant Fund Manager – Passive Fund Management

Role Purpose
· Support the Fund Managers with designated equity funds (as appropriate) including monitoring investment performance and supporting investment decisions. Achieving target performance in respect of all supported managed index funds
· The role would support an individual who is looking to make a first step towards a practitioner role within passive fund management, but currently lacks the required knowledge/skills
· A strong Excel/VBA background to support the Passive Equity investment team, providing investment support on HSBC ETF/Index/Enhanced/Smart Beta/Factor Beta trading, structuring and risk management platforms (tactical & strategic. The individual would not have had extensive practical investment knowledge, but demonstrate the ability to learn and develop quickly in the role.
Key Accountabilities
Impact on Business
· Analysis of index changes & corporate actions identifying opportunities for added value to the investment process
· Assisting fund managers in preparing trading lists according to agreed trading strategies and market characteristics
· Working with support areas to provide a high level of service to clients and fund managers
· Assisting in conducting ad-hoc research, and preparing material for investment reports, as required
· Assisting in participating in research and product development activities, including assisting in the development of quantitative investment products
· Helping to maintain the integrity and increase the efficiency of equity indexation systems (as appropriate)
· Working with the team to manage transition mandates

· Support the global equity research team and the global investment teams with external and internal channels

· Be an excellent team player and work alongside Fund Managers in a support role

· Support Fund Managers and the head of the team to develop and maintain a research, analytics and risk framework for the team
Management of Risk
· Demonstrate detailed knowledge on Regulatory & Compliance matters, Maintain awareness of operational risk minimize the likelihood of it occurring including its identification, assessment, mitigation and control, loss identification and reporting in accordance with section B.1.2 of the Group Operations FIM
Observation of Internal Controls
· Maintain and observe HSBC internal control standards, implement and observe Group Compliance Policy, including the timely implementation of recommendations made by internal/external auditors and external regulators. Foster a compliance culture and implement Group Policy by managing compliance risk in liaison with the Head of Group Compliance, Regional Compliance Officer, Area Compliance or Local Compliance Officer, ensuring adequate compliance resources are in place and training is provided, and optimizing relations with regulators
Desired profile
Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications
· Excel VBA programming experience, Strong Database SQL skills (desirable), use and understanding of MATLAB
· in a current investment support role, but wishing to move into a practical role in the future (i.e. assistant fund manager/junior fund manager)
· CFA or equivalent an advantage, but not essential
· FCA registration desirable {CF30)
· willingness to learn and research portfolio optimization applications
· Proficient in spoken and written English
· Positive and proactive attitude with flexibility to accommodate changing environment and willingness to take on new responsibilities
