The Area Director role is based within Business Banking.
SMEs play a significant role in driving the economic health of most markets around the world and represent the vast majority of businesses in any economy. As the world continues to become more connected, SMEs are a growing sector in both domestic and international markets. The combined approach for Business Banking to grow our presence within the home market and also become the International SME Bank will allow us to best service the full range of customers in this sector.
The role of the Area Director is to lead, coach, manage and develop a team of Business Banking Relationship Managers to deliver bespoke strategic objectives to retain and grow customer portfolio. This should be achieved by a strong ability to provide direction in assessing and capturing customer needs and opportunities effectively within the existing, new and prospective customer base and ensuring the proposed solutions meet their specific needs. The jobholder is expected to manage a team of Business Banking Relationship Managers to acquire, retain, and grow CMB customer relationships for HSBC adhering to the Group values and risk management practices. The Business Banking segment is core to Commercial Banking and this position is required to maximize the value of these relationships.
The Area Director is responsible for developing their team of Business Banking Relationship Managers to ensure delivery of the teams’ financial plan and deliver best in class customer experience in line with the Business Banking strategy.
Your responsibilities will include:
Lead and develop a team, establishing cultural and behavioural excellence, high engagement, and effective performance management for the long term benefit of the bank.
Optimising the potential value and profitability of existing relationships by assisting in the delivery of solutions, products and services appropriate to meet customer need
Owning customer engagement, ensuring service excellence at all times, for all aspects of any customer, prospect or professional’s interaction with HSBC and to improve customer engagement
Build a network of business introducers in the local professional and business community.
Adhere to structures and processes in place for the management of credit, operational, reputation and regulatory risk
Take a hands-on approach to coaching with regular & productive use of Personal Development Plans and appropriate follow up
Desired profile
The ideal candidate for this role will have:
Experience working in relevant environment/s, i.e. Knowledge of the Commercial Banking market both globally and specifically relating to the local environment, including the competitive landscape, with a detailed knowledge of competitor propositions
Experience working in relevant market/context, i.e. Commercial or Business Banking
Past working experience in a relevant role, i.e. Relationship Management, Management
A full, valid driver's license
Availability to undertake the travel required for this role, i.e. Travel to see customers Three out Five Working Days
Past working experience on relevant systems, i.e. Knowledge of group systems, including CARM, ClientVision, HORIS, Global Links and GRPT/RBPM is desirable but not essential
Proven experience of leading the delivery of an excellent customer service and proactively look for innovative ways to improve the service delivered to customers
Proven experience of leading others and creating an environment that supports and inspires people to develop and deliver
Excellent written and spoken communication skills with experience of successfully influencing others, negotiating effectively and winning over audiences with compelling and persuasive presentations
Built effective networks both internally and externally and created opportunities for others to work collaboratively
A comprehensive understanding of risk management and proven experience of ensuring own/others' compliance with relevant regulatory processes
Experience of building and managing complex relationships with significant customers
A track record of effectively handling complex sales, to meet the needs of demanding customers, in a fair and ethical way
The base location for this role is Canary Wharf, London
