Software Systems Engineer, HP Servers

Job description

We are looking for a Software Systems
Engineer II for our Servers
division to be focused on the tuning & evaluation of servers and server
storage. Do you love to develop for the backend of infrastructure? Are you
passionate about hyperscale? This Engineering position is
responsible for the development and implementation of procedures for the tuning
and evaluation of servers, server storage, and/or server options with focus on
Database and Virtualization performance benchmarks – TPC, VMMark, SPECvirt. 
Evaluates data and makes recommendations for changes required to enhance HP
products and deliver superior performing HP server products.  What You Might Do in This Role:  ·        
Performs system
level performance testing on various HP platforms including servers,
storage, and networking.·        
Measures system performance in complex
database environments using the industry’s top enterprise databases.·        
Measures system performance in complex
virtualization environments using the industry’s top hypervisors.·        
Works closely with and
receives some guidance from more-experienced senior level staff members.·        
Maintains relationships with internal
and external development partners on software/hardware systems design and
development.·        
Produces designs and project
activities for compliance with systems design and development guidelines and
standards; provides tangible feedback to improve product quality and mitigate
failure risk.·        
Works with innovation and integration
of new technologies into projects and activities in the software systems design
organization.·        
Evaluates new Hardware and Software
technologies for performance·        
Writes technical papers documenting
system configuration and tuning techniques.·        
Works with ISV and IHV engineers in
optimizing systems and resolving performance and energy utilization issues.·        
Documents and reports issues
discovered when testing and evaluating the systems.·        
Provides detailed information and
guidance relative to the system performance and energy efficiency to
product design teams for future product improvements.

Publishes industry standard benchmarks
such as TPC and SPEC benchmarks.

Desired profile

What
You’ll Need:
·        
Bachelor's or
Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering
Technology, or equivalent
·        
Minimum 2 years of
development/engineering experience
·        
Experience with
software system design tools and languages. (Java, C , etc.)
·        
Experience with
complex software stack environments including Hypervisors, databases, web
servers, etc.
·        
Excellent analytical
and problem solving skills.
·        
Experience in overall
architecture of software systems for products and solutions.
·        
Developing processes
for software systems testing and methodology, including writing and execution
of test plans, debugging, and testing scripts and tools
·        
Excellent written and
verbal communication skills; mastery in English. Ability to effectively
communicate product architectures, design.
 
Preferred Experience: 
 
·        
Database
administration and optimization
·        
Able to work
well in a team environment and perform well under pressure.
·        
Experience with
high-end systems and performance tuning.
·        
Understanding and
experience of operating systems and hardware energy utilization  and
performance characteristics.
·        
Understanding of
Windows Server and Linux internals.
·        
Experience with
programming and script writing using Shell scripts or other scripting
languages.
·        
Familiar
with troubleshooting and fault isolation of complicated software
and hardware systems. 
·        
Aptitude for
self-learning.
·        
Ability to be a team
