The primary focus of this role will be to provide legal support to the Americas commercial sales team within the Enterprise Group business unit.  The Enterprise Group accounts for approximately $28B of HP’s revenue and is comprised of a portfolio of enterprise products, including servers, storage, networking, services, and converged systems.
Position Summary
As Legal Counsel, you will provide vision and strategy guidance, acting as a trusted advisor to senior leaders who manage relationships with sales teams supporting the enterprise group commercial account across the central region of the United States. The individual filling this role will be expected to be able to handle complex direct customer negotiations across the HP Enterprise Group product set.
Description:  As Legal Counsel, you will:
·                     Directly participate in reviewing and assisting the business in negotiating commercial sales contracts across the region.
·                     Identify areas of opportunity for the business to simplify processes.
·                     Proactively identify and evaluate risks; developing effective mitigations and/or justifications so that HP may accept appropriate risks and maintain a competitive market position.
·                     Act with urgency and accountability in day-to-day tasks and establish a superior working relationship with senior leaders.
·                     Act with a customer-centric approach responding to client requests promptly and collaboratively.
·                     Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of contract documents.
·                     Identify and resolve highly complex legal, regulatory, and business issues.
·                     Lead complex, multidimensional projects or transactions.
·                     Take full accountability for clients' legal needs by networking effectively to achieve resolution of matters outside of direct subject matter expertise or responsibility.
·                     Demonstrate thought leadership by seeking process improvements and networking effectively to share innovations across a broad cross-section of the organization.
·                     Work with high energy and enhance team relationships as an individual contributor who freely collaborates with the business and legal teams.
·                     Build a strong working relationship with sales and business managers in assigned verticals and territories.
·                     Communicate effectively and efficiently with manager and identify potential issues, obstacles, and escalations early and often.
·                     Consult manager on key issues affecting the organization, including deal risk and resource management issues.
·                     Act as a leader and mentor for other team members.

Desired profile

Qualifications
 
Education and Experience 
-       Advanced university degree in law (e.g. JD or LLB) from a top-tier institution is required plus an active bar membership in at least one state.
-       5 years of in-house and/or law firm experience.  
-       3 years of commercial contract experience.
-       Significant experience managing multiple, complex, strategic, specialty law projects, issues, and transactions.
-       Experience from a top-tier law firm preferred.
-       English language skills to business standard required.
 
Knowledge and Skills
 
-       Excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation, networking and influence skills.
 
-       Mastery in business writing, contract drafting, negotiating and advising internal clients.
 
-       Mastery of legal and relevant business knowledge in multiple practices areas.
 
-       Recognized subject matter expert in a key practice area.
 
-       Developed awareness of how to operate successfully in multiple international legal environments.
 
-       Mastery in negotiating or advising senior representatives of external and internal organizations on complex and high value/risk matters.
 
-       Demonstrated knowledge and judgment about legal and commercial issues in transactions; knowledge and judgment about prevailing market standards.
