Job description
High House Contemporary Art seeks a gallery intern for an internship in their gallery at Clanfield in Oxfordshire, website www.highhousegallery.com (in development). The position will provide the candidate with an opportunity for a broadly-based experience of working within a contemporary art gallery.
High House is a brand new contemporary space opening in summer 2012. It is committed to exhibiting only the very best in critically-engaged contemporary art from a roster of UK and international artists in a rotating programme of solo and curated shows.
The gallery is housed within an important Grade II listed building and is surrounded with beautiful formal gardens which will also house occasional summer exhibitions of contemporary outdoor work.
An intern will gain all round knowledge and experience of how a contemporary art gallery operates. Working closely with the Gallery Manager they will assist on a wide variety of projects, allowing for the development of, and to complement, personal interests and skills. They will also provide general and administrative support to the Gallery Manager including assisting with the realisation and marketing of the exhibition programme.
As the gallery is small the opportunity will allow an exceptional variety of work experience in all aspects of the operation of the business. The hours and days are partly flexible and working days/hours will vary over time and are to be agreed by negotiation.
The intern will paid a modest daily travel and food allowance.

Desired profile
The candidate should have completed A levels and a at least a foundation course in the Arts, although ideally an arts degree. A Press/PR intern should have the equivalent.
They should have a sound knowledge of Contemporary Art and a keen interest in the arts, be bright, personable, well presented and with a good telephone manner.
They will be required to meet and discuss artworks with clients visiting the gallery and good interpersonal skills are essential.
