Upstream Process Scientist
Stevenage (Hertfordshire) Design / Civil engineering / Industrial engineering
Job description
Your Responsibilities :
Upstream Process Scientist
Role Summary:
BioPharm Process Research (BPR) is an early process development function responsible for accelerating biopharmaceutical assets into clinical manufacture by linking drug discovery and product development. As part of this wider group the Upstream Process Research group is responsible for cell line selection, the development of bioreactor production processes and their transfer to GSK's large-scale clinical manufacturing facilities to support the progression of GSK's innovative early stage Biopharm portfolio which includes monoclonal antibodies, bispecific antibodies and recombinant proteins.
We are now looking to leverage our recent investment in automated upstream and CLD processes by embedding advanced analytical techniques and data analysis to better understand our platform processes. Enhanced data sets will enable improved process models which we will use to drive better cell line selections, increased capacity and reduce timelines.
The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and passionate ‘hands on' scientist who will strengthen our bioreactor team by working closely with our cell line development, process analysis and downstream processing groups to progress our Onestream vision and support our End to End Biopharm capability.
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Develop our Onestream vision by practically linking Upstream and Downstream needs through focused experimental work packages
• Embed spectroscopic and other advanced analytics into larger scale bioreactor platforms
• Generate bioreactor data to increase the understanding of our platform processes through metabolite and spectroscopic characterisation and use this to improve our process models across scales from 15mL to 50L
• Contribute to wider automation, data analysis and bioinformatic work packages within BPR to support our End to End Biopharma Capability
• Deliver cell culture batches (up to 50L scale) to support downstream processing, analytical development and technology transfer
• Assist with authoring detailed technical reports and process transfer documents to support tech transfer activities
