Job description

Your Responsibilities :
GSK is a world leading research-based pharmaceutical company that combines both individual talent and technical resources to create a platform for the delivery of strong growth in a rapidly changing healthcare market. Our mission is to improve the quality of human life by enabling people to do more, feel better and live longer.

Biopharm Discovery is a department dedicated to the discovery of novel and effective biopharmaceutical medicines. This department comprises several complementary functions focused on the progression of a portfolio of biopharmaceuticals from initial antibody discovery, expression and characterisation to molecular engineering and biological and physiochemical profiling.

Within the Biopharm Discovery Unit, the Molecular Design and Engineering (MDE) group takes accountability for antibody engineering and developability profiling prior to candidate selection to continuously improve molecule quality and works very closely with the early CMC teams to transform discovered leads into potential therapeutics.

We are currently seeking a keen, dynamic and self-motivated LC-MS Scientist to join MDE team who would be working with the analytical-CMC team which are based within the same state-of-the-art Biopharm facilities at GSK-Stevenage. He/She will have the opportunity to perform early developability assessment studies to identify undesirable instabilities on a large panel of therapeutic antibody candidates and antibody variants. The role will be lab-centric and will involve performing high throughput screening of diverse antibody panels to assess chemical instabilities (e.g de-amidation, oxidation etc.) at various stages of the early drug discovery workflows aiding in the candidate selection process.

You will be required to develop and optimize high throughput LC-MS based methods/screens (existing and/or new), perform interpretations on the generated data and provide conclusions. He/she will have the opportunity to build capability in automated workflows.

The successful candidate will have experience in one or more analytical techniques such as mass spectrophotometry, SEC-HPLC, RP-HPLC, IEX, CEX and MS based methods such as peptide mapping, intact mass analysis (reduced/non-reduced) etc. Experience in liquid handling systems and data automation would be beneficial. Although predominantly lab-based, the role also involves important aspects of verbal and written communication and requires good organisation as well as a broader scientific knowledge.

Both individual and team working are essential and therefore the role will suit a scientist with good interpersonal skills, abilities in data analytics and self-motivation.

We can offer you a collaborative learning environment and the opportunity to develop your career and gain experience across drug discovery. If you share our priorities of innovation, performance and trust and are motivated to contribute towards bringing lifesaving drugs to patients, then we'd love to hear from you.

Closing date for applications:29th May 2019

During the course of your application you will be requested to complete voluntary information which will be used in monitoring the effectiveness of our equality and diversity policies. Your information will be treated as confidential and will not be used in any part of the selection process.

If you require a reasonable adjustment to the application / selection process to enable you to demonstrate your ability to perform the job requirements please contact 0808 234 4391. This will help us to understand any modifications we may need to make to support you throughout our selection process.

When applying for this role, please use the 'cover letter' of the on-line application to describe how you meet the competencies for this role, as outlined in the job requirements above. The information that you have provided in your cover letter and CV will be used to assess your application.

Thank you for your interest in this opportunity.
