Your Responsibilities :
Are you are an experienced protein expression scientist with substantial knowledge in yeast systems? Then we would love you to join our High Throughput Antibody Expression team.

Biopharm Discovery is a department dedicated to the discovery of novel and effective biopharmaceutical medicines. This department comprises several complementary functions, exploiting cutting edge antibody discovery technology, high throughput expression and characterisation, protein analytical profiling and pharmacology assays to identify diverse panels of antibody molecules from which high-quality drug candidates can be selected.

To support our “Accelerate Biopharm Discovery” strategy, we are automating the small-scale expression and purification of antibody molecules and need additional expertise to help us obtain the most value from this investment..

If you are an experienced protein expression scientist with substantial expertise in yeast expression systems, we would love you to join our team. Your main focus will be optimising the automated expression of antibody molecules in yeast, but a broad understanding of protein biochemistry and purification techniques would be a benefit, as would experience in transient protein expression in mammalian systems. automation would be an advantage, and enthusiasm about automation is a necessity.

Key Responsibilities:
• You will support drug discovery efforts by providing expertise in yeast protein expression
• You will use your knowledge of protein expression to implement and optimise an automated antibody expression process supporting the supply of antibodies and other proteins across GSK
• You will champion best practice for antibody expression across the organization

Why You?

Basic qualifications:
• Protein expression scientist with PhD or equivalent and significant post-doc experience of optimising protein expression systems for yield and quality
• Experience of working with S. cerevisiae or other yeast expression systems and sound understanding of yeast cell biology as it relates to protein expression
• Evidence of lab-based leadership with the ability to influence through matrix teams and across a large organisation
• Excellent scientific record keeping, data analysis and interpretation skills

Preferred qualifications:
Experience in some or all the areas listed below:
• Experience of automation in a modern laboratory environment
• Experience of transient or stable expression in mammalian systems.
• Protein biochemistry, purification and analysis skills
• Track record of process improvement including the use of design of experiment (DoE)
• Experience of working in biopharmaceutical drug discovery supporting therapeutic program progression
