The Biopharm Molecular Discovery (BPMD) Unit has the remit to design and optimize biopharmaceuticals from Target to Candidate Molecule exploiting cutting edge technology and delivering diverse lead panels from which high quality candidates can be selected and seamlessly transferred to Biopharmaceutical Product Development and Supply. We are currently looking to integrate selected new technologies and processes to modernise our Biopharmaceutical Discovery and this has led to the creation of several new positions.
The protein and cell sciences group has an opening for an innovative and flexible lab based scientist to produce antigen for antibody selections and also to process and express hits and lead mAbs identified from selections in collaboration with the high throughput expression team. You will use your broad knowledge of protein expression systems to identify the best ways to approach different expression challenges.
You will be responsible for maintaining accurate records in antibody discovery database and the electronic lab note book. You will be responsible for presenting your data to multi-disciplinary programme teams.
Key responsibilities
• Produce antigen and other proteins required for selections.
• Process and express hits and lead mAbs identified from selections for efficient reformatting and expression.
• Work with external collaborators and the high throughput expression team to ensure process fit between different stages of the antibody discovery process.
• Scientific impact through innovative approach to expression of proteins
• Working effectively within multidisciplinary teams
• Ensuring the high quality and accurate recording of scientific results, to support data integrity principles
• Clear and concise presentations of results and recommendations to peers and key stakeholders

Desired profile
Basic qualifications:
• Minimum BSc degree in related life science field.
• Extensive knowledge of protein purification, especially of challenging targets, demonstrated through the delivery of innovative solutions for drug discovery programs.
• Demonstrated experience in a variety of expression systems to enable expression, purification and characterisation of proteins and protein complexes.
• The successful candidate will have experience working in multi-disciplinary teams. Experience collaborating with scientists in external organisations would be an advantage.
• Broad knowledge of the target to candidate process.
• Track record of flexibility and enterprise thinking.
