Our mission is to improve the quality of human life by enabling people to do more, feel better and live longer.
Biopharm Discovery is a department dedicated to the discovery of novel and effective biopharmaceutical medicines. This department comprises several complementary functions focused on the progression of a portfolio of biopharmaceuticals from initial antibody discovery, expression and characterisation to molecular engineering and biological and physiochemical profiling.
Antibody Pharmacology at GSK comprises a team of 20+ assay scientists, immunologists and biologists who conduct functional assay design, screening and characterisation of potential antibody-based drug molecules. The team is an integral part of the Biopharmaceutical Molecular Discovery organization that is responsible for the discovery of candidate biologics across several Therapeutic Areas including Immuno-oncology, Respiratory, Immuno-Inflammation and Infectious Diseases.
We are seeking an experienced laboratory scientist with a deep understanding of antibody structure and function relationships, and in particular the contribution of Fc biology to the Mechanism of Action and PK/PD of an antibody. The candidate will be expected to act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Fc biology and be accountable for profiling Fc functions and selecting the most suitable Fc variant that produces the desired Fc functionality.
Depending on experience, the candidate may be responsible for leading and driving a Fc biology matrix team in designing novel in vitro assays that are disease relevant, and standardizing assays to accelerate the discovery process.
Key responsibilities:
• Demonstrate scientific leadership through acting as a Subject Matter Expert in Fc biology; Stay abreast of the latest literature and developments in the field; Be accountable for selecting the most suitable Fc variant that produces the desired Fc functionality
• Collaborate with other functions within GSK R&D, especially Antibody Technology and Translational Science; Devise and implement a Fc biology strategy that supports the discovery and development of best-in-class antibody drug candidates
• Influence Drug Discovery Project Teams as an Antibody Pharmacology SME. Accountable for designing and conducting disease relevant functional assays and Fc biology assays; Deliver timely quality data packages that enable project decision-making and progression
• When suitable, participate in relevant technology projects that optimise/modernise the antibody drug discovery process
• Be able to publish and present both internally and externally
We can offer you a collaborative learning environment and the opportunity to develop your career and gain experience across drug discovery. If you share our priorities of innovation, performance and trust and are motivated to contribute towards bringing lifesaving drugs to patients, then we'd love to hear from you.
