Job description



Your Responsibilities :
The Artwork and Packaging Services (APS) functions exists globally to support continuity of packaging supply for all Pharmaceutical Prescription Medicines (Rx products) that are manufactured by GSK. The Packaging Operations team (within APS) is responsible for interfacing with GSK's manufacturing sites, Contract Manufacturing Organisations (CMOs), procurement, suppliers, and Pack Operation Leads to deliver pack design and specification services for primary, secondary and tertiary packaging.

Job Purpose:
Reporting to the Packaging Technology Manager, you will be responsible for the provision of technical leadership and project management for specific pack changes across multiple GSK manufacturing sites, which includes being the key point of contact for the manufacturing Sites to ensure regular communication on performance, pack change status and potential new service requests.

As the Packaging technical expert your responsibilities will include providing packaging technology support to New Product Introductions (NPI) and Major Pack Changes (lead by Pack Operation Leads) to ensure project milestones are met. You will also be heavily involved in the packaging development and design of primary, secondary, tertiary and distribution packs. In this capacity you will work closely with a wide-range of internal and external customers and stakeholders to agree pack design briefs, evaluating pack design options to meet commercial, regulatory, and product protection requirements (and suitability for manufacturing), and evaluation suitability of designs for production (at Sites), including support for defining line trial content. Further to this, you will provide Technical data reviews related to packaging design (including inputs to technical specifications/drawings) and the development of packaging component standards. Throughout your work you will ensure pack designs meet GMS standards.

On a broader level, you will provide technical expertise in all matters relating to packaging components, material, conversion process, printing techniques and emerging technologies to improve efficiencies, reduce complexity, reduce cost and improve value of established products. This element of your role will include providing technical support and advice to Site Packaging and Production Groups (for primary and secondary packaging operations like validation, process equipment, test equipment, components and machine trials, etc) to ensure robust, consistent processes qualified to GSK and to external standards.

Throughout your work you will also work closely with Procurement groups for the evaluation of new and alternative packaging component suppliers and implementation of changes to the supply base. This element of the role includes providing Packaging Technical support to Supplier Quality / CMOs for the evaluation of Supplier Change Proposals (for packaging components).

Location - Please Note: Although this role operates at Site and Above-Site level, we are looking for a suitably skilled and experienced individual to be based at the GSK Manufacturing site based at Ware (Postcode: SG12 0DJ). Please be aware that there will be some travel to other GSK manufacturing sites.

About You:
This role would suit a self-motivated individual who has experience in packaging and of working in a complex manufacturing site. You will be resilient and calm under pressure, able to manage multiple workloads, with strong people skills and a proven ability to influence people to achieve objectives and drive performance. You will have a strong continuous improvement mindset.

About Ware Manufacturing Site:
Medicines at Ware are presented as either Respiratory devices or in Oral Solid Dose form. The site holds a unique position in our network as the only site responsible for launching the company's pipeline of new medicines in these dose forms, many of which are life saving medicines. Why You?

Basic qualifications:
• BSc in Scientifc or Engineering discipline
• Relevant experience

Preferred qualifications:
• Materials/Packaging science qualification
• Previous experience in the packaging/materials industry
• Comprehensive knowledge of external regulatory requirements (MHRA, FDA), and internal/external quality and safety requirements
• Operational knowledge and understanding of manufacturing processes associated with a dosage form.
• Experience working in a cGMP aligned pharmaceutical environment, including managing change control.
