Job description

Your Responsibilities :
GSK is a world leading research-based pharmaceutical company that combines both individual talent and technical resources to create a platform for the delivery of strong growth in a rapidly changing healthcare market. Our mission is to improve the quality of human life by enabling people to do more, feel better and live longer.

Biopharm Discovery is a department dedicated to the discovery of novel and effective biopharmaceutical medicines. This department comprises several complementary functions focused on the progression of a portfolio of biopharmaceuticals from initial antibody discovery, expression and characterisation to molecular engineering and biological and physiochemical profiling.

An exciting opportunity is available to support and aid in the development of new biotherapeutic products through utilization of advanced antibody Next Generation Sequencing (NGS). The primary focus of this role will be applying and developing experimental and computational methods of antibody repertoire sequence analysis to advance biologics drug discovery.

You will be working in close collaboration with the biopharmaceutical experimental teams and computational scientists. This is an exceptional opportunity to lead as a subject matter expert in antibody repertoire sequencing and to apply these skills to the exciting field of biotherapeutic drug discovery.

Key responsibilities:

• Devise strategy, lead, plan and execute projects using Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) to analyse antibody repertoires from both display platforms (e.g. phage and yeast) and immunised animals.
• Analyse and interpret complex NGS data sets working closely with the Bioinformatics team.
• Investigate new innovative immune repertoire sequencing technologies and experimental techniques to facilitate high throughput antibody sequence analysis.
• Establish contacts with centres of excellence in NGS and interact with suppliers and CROs to generate data with a variety of technologies.
• Communicate and visualise the output of analyses to non-expert colleagues and business leaders.
• Mentor and support the training of technical and non-expert colleagues in NGS technologies and data analysis.
• Uses expertise in NGS data analytics to solve project related problems and work with teams to drive successful outcomes.
• Independently, design, interpret, derive conclusions and recommend next steps on projects through design and execution of complex experiments and decision making.
• Initiate new research directions and use scientific expertise to solve project challenges and develop new processes around the use of NGS in antibody discovery.
• Use networking skills across the R&D organisation and via interactions with external key opinion leaders to bring in and apply state-of-the art practices and technological solutions to Biopharm discovery.
• Influence scientific direction and execution of programmes and discovery platforms outside of immediate area of expertise through analysis of feasibility and strategic fit.
• Coordinate external collaborations centered around the use of NGS for antibody discovery.

We can offer you a collaborative learning environment and the opportunity to develop your career and gain experience across drug discovery. If you share our priorities of innovation, performance and trust and are motivated to contribute towards bringing lifesaving drugs to patients, then we'd love to hear from you.

Please use your cover letter to highlight how you meet the competencies for the role, your cover letter along with your CV will be used to assess your application.

Closing date: 5th June 2019
