We think this is a fantastic role for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to embed their expertise in managing contamination risk throughout a complex manufacturing pharmaceutical facility.

At Worthing Primary, we produce Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs), intermediates and raw materials used in medicines across the globe. You role will directly contribute to the lives of patients receiving our products, by ensuring our processes are safe, comply to the highest quality standards, and are lean and efficient.

In this role, we'll look to you to use your technical expertise to coach and build capability of team members in protecting our products through process contamination risk assessment and risk mitigation. This will include enhancing mechanical process robustness plans, engineering standard work, improving current condition based monitoring standards and implement across all plants, connecting in with other sites and sharing best practice , and embedding here at Worthing.

A continuous improvement mindset is essential for this role, as is the ability to coach, mentor, problem solve, influence and effectively communicate with all levels across all functions across the site.

Job Purpose
The purpose of this role is to provide mechanical engineering and management support to the sites contamination prevention programmes (often referred to as Physical Contamination Cause Elimination (PCCE)). The role will drive key PCCE improvement initiatives on site and be part of the PCCE Team.

Key Responsibilities
• Actively manage and ensure delivery of key initiatives supporting delivery of the sites contamination prevention programme.
• Working with Engineering team to ensure that equipment employed and the procedures and techniques used to maintain processing plant deliver PCCE improvements.
• Support completion of Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA's) for all current processes in line with the overall site plans
• Supporting Engineering team to deliver timely closure of all significant risks established during FMEA's. This may involve undertaking elements of a Plant Engineers role i.e. creation/updating maintenance life plans, implementation of plant modifications, implementation of maintenance best practice
• Actively involved in Engineering Planned Change management processes to ensure that PCCE is considered during any changes to plant either via Plant Modification or Project activity.
• Support the PCCE Lead in delivering a cultural change at site focussing on mindsets and behaviours and embed best practices identified during FMEAs and from other sites
• Support collection and collation of data on Contamination incidents for feeding to on site and off site forums.
• Where appropriate become actively involved and provide support to site quality for contamination related investigations
• Support Engineering for Root Cause Analysis of contamination incidents
• Support implementation of any Best Practices identified through PCCE Community of Practice (CoP)
• Delivery of PCCE Training to site based teams

Desired profile

Basic qualifications:

Basic requirements

• Degree/HNC qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related subject.
• Demonstrated experience, at an appropriate level in a process industry, preferably fine chemical or pharmaceutical manufacture.
• Proven Project Management skills and a track record of delivering step change initiatives
• Ability, with no direct reporting, to deliver through others against a backdrop of competing priorities
• Managing time pressure and the balance of personal/family time and work time.
• Able to work on own initiative and drive forward improvements with minimal supervision
• Be able to demonstrate good communication and influencing skills
• Set high safety standards, communication openly, confront risk and proactively involve him/herself in the site safety culture.
• Follow rules, speak up, be mindful of risks and get involved

Preferred qualifications:

• Ideally a Chartered Engineer in a Mechanical Engineering discipline.
• OE Greenbelt accredited
• Ability to perform root cause analysis
• Good communication and influencing skills.
• Sound knowledge and understanding of appropriate standards and procedures with regards to Quality, GMP, Validation, Safety, Environment and Engineering Design.
• Computer literate and competent in the use of desktop office products as well as other Company business systems.
• Knowledge of API manufacturing.
• Knowledge of equipment used in API Manufacturing and ability to understand new technology/equipment.
• Knowledge of Operational Engineering and Engineering Maintenance
