Job Purpose:

- Management of an in house lab team, performing clinical assay development and validation, assay maintenance and clinical testing in agreement to GMP/GCP requirements

Key Responsibilities:

- Responsible for the scientific and technical management of assays supporting one or several vaccine projects with limited number of technologies.
- Manages a team of 5-12 lab technicians, with focus on people management processes according to local rules (e.g. people development, engagement). Responsible for the transparent communication, escalation and cascading of messages between the CLS management and his/her team.
- Supervise a team of technicians in agreement with applicable quality management system tools to:
o Implement assay development and validation plans
o Perform assay maintenance (Critical reagents characterization and qualification)
o Implement assay trouble shooting plans
o Clinical testing in accordance to agreed timelines
o Oversee data checks and data release
- Identify assay, equipment or process deviations, define & manage CAPAs. Escalate any risks and issues identified.
- Apply good documentation practices (GDP) and manage human biological specimens and raw data in agreement to GSK rules. Write memos summarizing experiments and written standards relative to his/her domain of expertise.
- Provide short to mid-term views on the workload and alignment with resources for his/her team. Co-ordinates projects and resources according to defined priorities; under supervision. Challenges and approves planning of lab activities.
- Responsible for the training and the qualification of his/her lab team technicians.
- Share know-how in his/her field of competency and support others in their development. Present data in meetings within CLS or in front of an external audience.

Desired profile

Basic qualifications:

- Master (or Bachelor) degree in science plus 3-5 years of work experience as a manager of a lab team
- Technical expertise in clinical testing, assay development, validation and life cycle management of clinical assays applied to the quantitative measurement of humoral immunological response induced either by vaccination or infection.

Preferred qualifications:

- Good knowledge of quality system practices.
