Job description

Nombre del sítio: UK - Hertfordshire - Stevenage
Fecha de publicación: Feb 23 2024

The structural biology and biophysical sciences (SBS) group is a vibrant and global organisation that supports all medicine modalities from traditional small molecule drugs and biotherapeutics to oligonucleotides and vaccines. We are looking for a talented research scientist with expertise in biological mass spectrometry and a particular interest in structural MS and protein characterisation to join us on a permanent, full-time basis.

As the successful candidate, you will work in the mass spectrometry (MS) group within the wider SBS team at GSK’s Stevenage R&D site, where we provide molecular insights that drive design of differentiated medicines and vaccines. Structural MS forms an important part of understanding the molecular mode of action of how our therapeutics engage with protein targets, informing how molecules can be improved and guiding how they are progressed through our pipelines. We have a current focus on HDX-MS and native MS technologies to provide rapid mode of action insights and triage at multiple stages of the drug discovery process.  However, we would particularly encourage applicants with experience in orthogonal peptide centric workflows (covalent labelling or cross-linking strategies). You would regularly participate in and lead project contributions through the integration of MS data with structural models and biophysical data sets.

The group is also responsible for supporting all MS characterisation (intact mass and protein sequencing) for protein reagent generation and design in addition to aiding biopharmaceutical discovery programmes. The group has a record of developing high-end MS methodologies to support the growing complexity of emerging modalities and challenging antigens. Successful applicants would also have the opportunity to help lead the group’s MS QC strategy.

At Stevenage we have a state-of-the-art suite of 6 high resolution mass spectrometers in the group including a Bruker TimsToF, Waters Cyclic IMS HDX Platform and EMR/UHMR Orbitrap instruments.  We also provide an array of biophysical techniques (SPR, Mass photometry, FIDA) and together form a growing structural biology centre of excellence. The group works in unison with project teams across all modalities to generate integrated mode of action data that helps progress projects from concept to medicines.

We create a place where people can grow, be their best, be safe, and feel welcome, valued and included. We offer a competitive salary, an annual bonus based on company performance, healthcare and wellbeing programmes, pension plan membership, and shares and savings programme.
