We are seeking motivated experienced scientists for our new U.S. R&D Center in Rockville, Maryland. You will have the opportunity to be on the ground floor of a new organization and site, and you will be part of a new culture of some of the best scientific minds in vaccine research

Job Purpose:
Key member of a team of dedicated scientists working on the design and characterization of vaccine candidates and supporting platform technology advances in Preclinical Research

Key Responsibilities
• Demonstrates a detailed fundamental knowledge of own specialty area or scientific discipline
• Has theoretical and operational knowledge of laboratory equipment in own discipline
• Able to develop rationale and new hypotheses for experimental design
• Performs complex data management tasks independently
• Interprets results and communicates to his/her supervisor and/or designs next logical step of experiments based on interpretation of results
• Designs and executes new methods and protocols related to area of expertise and/or proactively incorporates new technology or techniques into practice with minimal supervision
• Prepares detailed oral or written summaries of results with interpretation for projects/programmes; independently writes specific technical sections of internal and external reports
• Contributes to and leads development of scientific papers and internal reports
• Contributes to design of new projects for internal and external vaccine design opportunities

Desired profile

Basic qualifications:
• PhD in molecular biology, biochemistry, biophysics, structural biology, or other vaccinology-related discipline
•PhD with 3+ years experience in research, preferably including vaccine research in industrial, academic or government laboratories
•Hands-on and in-depth understanding of diverse aspects of: protein purification and analytics AND/OR structural biology, structural/computational biology (x-ray and/or cryo-EM) and biophysics
•Basic experience with common bioanalytical, biochemical, biophysical assay execution (SDS-PAGE, Western blot, ELISA, PCR assays, chromatography, protein-ligand interactions, thermostability etc)
•Fluency in English

Preferred qualifications:
•Deep knowledge and understanding of GSK Vaccines strategy and objectives, regulatory requirements, competitive intelligence and intellectual property aspects. Ability to integrate this knowledge in decisions and recommendations
•Excellent communication and presentation skills, ability to collaborate in multiple project work streams
•Strong publication record in related field
•Ability to efficiently manage uncertainty, changes in priorities and timelines
