Job description

Details:
We are a science-led global healthcare company with a mission: we want to help people to do more, feel better, live longer. Since 2009 we've had more new medicines approved than any other healthcare company, including treatments for asthma and COPD, HIV and cancer. We currently have around 40 new molecular entities (NME) in Phase II/III development. The depth and breadth of our pipeline marks a new chapter in R&D productivity; we have the potential to significantly impact our position across several therapy areas where additional support could have transformational gains for patients.

DMPK
We have an exciting opportunity in drug discovery within the Respiratory Therapy Area Unit at GlaxoSmithKline in Stevenage. The drug discovery group comprises multidisciplinary teams – Discovery Performance Units (DPUs) – focused on discovering new therapies for severe airway diseases, primarily COPD, severe asthma, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and acute lung injury. DMPK scientists play a key role in supporting target validation, lead optimisation and pre-clinical progression of novel drug candidates. In order to meet the needs of an expanding portfolio of drug discovery projects, we wish to recruit a candidate with a PhD in a DMPK/bioanalytical related field or relevant experience in industry to carry out analysis of large and small molecules in biological matrices and generate pharmacokinetic data in support of Respiratory drug discovery. We are particularly looking for bright, innovative post-doctorates, preferably with experience of working in the pharmaceutical industry in a placement year or studentship, who are seeking an opportunity to develop themselves and their science in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary drug discovery setting and possess scientific curiosity and learning agility matched to their desire to build a career in drug discovery.

Your responsibilities would include:
1) Bioanalysis of small molecules, biomarkers and potentially biopharmaceuticals using LC-MS and other relevant bioanalytical techniques;
2) Bioanalytical method development & troubleshooting;
3) Generating basic pharmacokinetic parameters in support of drug discovery or development projects;
4) Reporting, analysing, presenting and ensuring overall quality of scientific work;
5) Frequent interaction with programme team members across numerous disciplines.
