Computational Fluid Dynamic Internship (Italy) - 2020
Internship Siena (Siena)
Job description
Your Responsibilities :
Context:
The graduate candidate will work on an innovative project to assess the comparability of opensource software (openfoam) and commercial software (Ansys Fluent) used for Computational Fluid dynamic.
The two software will be used to model a process step in different process condition. The intern will use both software and compare the results
Project Description:
The intern will:
1) Create a 3D geometry and the associated grids based on the selected case study (either Mixed tank, or chromatographic column)
2) Will select the appropriate equation and boundary condition to define the problem and will run the calculation using both software: commercial and opensource.
3) At simulation convergence will compare the results.
4) During the modelling process will keep track of the time and effort necessary to set the simulation running
5) As final activity evaluate the applicability of ANN to create a simplified model
The intern will be responsible to run the above reported activities for different process condition in order to have a robust comparison of the software with different process parameters.
What is expected at the end of the project is to have a reliable evaluation, comparing:
1. the quality of the results generated from the two software
2. an evaluation of which software is more user friendly, the time need to set up the simulation and a list of pro and cons to use an opensource software VS commercial one
*LI-GSK
Competencies the intern will develop:
The candidate will develop general knowledge of biopharma upstream processes being part of the DS development group and will develop modelling competencies working hand on to CFD simulation
