Biomedical Engineer - Galvani Bioelectronics
Hertford (Hertfordshire) Design / Civil engineering / Industrial engineering
Job description
Details:
** This role sits within Galvani Bioelectronics, an affiliate of GSK **
Summary ...
Bioelectronics is a relatively new field of medicine, with the capabilities of treating wide ranging ailments of human physiology. GSK is pioneering this field of research through backing and integrating research in a broad network of academic and industrial partners. We are collaborating with world leading institutions and companies to explore disease biology, prove treatment potential, and further neurotechnology towards implantable miniaturised devices. Ultimately we are striving to make bioelectronic medicine a key pillar in patient treatment, alongside pharmaceuticals and vaccines.
The Neural Interface Investigator will drive experimental studies internally to GSK around neural interface mechanical and electrical testing, biocompatibility assessments in the acute and chronic functional settings, and helping design novel interface geometries to enable optimised neural recording and stimulation. A major workstream will be involvement and solution delivery within the Graphene H2020 work package – Biomedical Technologies.
Key Responsibilities ...
Designing and evaluating (in vivo) the mechanical and electrochemical properties and reliability of nerve electrode interfaces, materials, and coatings in house and liaising with external CROs and academic collaborators, with the vision of providing unique solutions to neural interfacing for the clinic.
Behaviours ...
• Evidence of a strong ability at building confidence and trust with colleagues, within and across disparate disciplines and roles.
• Clear understanding and sound judgement of ethical and welfare issues for use of animals in science.
• Evidence of working across disparate groups of scientists, and within consortium.
Accountabilities ...
• Setup, usage, and upkeep of the electrophysiology laboratory.
• Sourcing of equipment and supplies for electrophysiology testing.
• Experimentation and characteristation of specific electrode designs in vivo.
• Data collection and logging using electronic laboratory notebooks.
• Collaborative engagement with external academic partners within the H2020 Graphene network.
Scientific expertise ...
High level of proficiency in electrophysiology and animal surgery and care. Evidence of a track record in the field of bioelectronics (e.g. publications).
