Basic qualifications:

•Bachelors/Masters in Biochemistry, Biology, Chemical/Biochemical Engineering or equivalent
•Demonstration of basic laboratory experience
•Basic understanding of cell culture and fermentation principles
•Passionate personality and positive attitude
•Excellent written and oral communication skills
•Ability to build relationships
•Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills
•Logical and independent thinking

Preferred qualifications:

• Masters in Biochemistry, Biology, Chemical/Biochemical Engineering or equivalent
•Previous research experience or internship experience in biopharmaceutical industry
•Understanding of sterile/aseptic laboratory techniques (For e.g., Culturing suspension adapted mammalian cells, operating bioreactors etc.)
•A strong understanding of scale-up of bioreactors, multiphase mixing models, and mass transfer
•Basic understanding of protein purification, microbiology, and protein chemistry
•Working knowledge of statistical approaches (For e.g. multi-variate analysis, DoE etc.)
•Logical and independent thinking
•Experience with analytical measurements (For e.g. viability, cell metabolism, etc.)
•Enthusiastic, flexible and results-oriented person who likes the challenge of working with a variety of teams in a multi-tasking environment
•Adaptable to a wide variety of activities

Details:

The Biopharm workstream of the AMT group has identified a portfolio of new technology platform opportunities with the potential to transform biopharmaceutical development and manufacturing within GSK. Activities fall into the seek, select, learn, integrate and incubate phase of the Manufacturing Technology Roadmap.

•This person/individual will be responsible for lab-based experimentation including but not limited to setting up/running bioreactors, culturing cells, generation/testing of water for injection (WFI), media/buffer preparation, combining data from multiple equipment/experiments etc
•Recognizes and corrects errors for various laboratory operations/equipment prior to failure
•Evaluate different technologies spanning biopharm molecule manufacture for their potential use in development
•Ability to troubleshoot problems and take corrective actions to solve the problem within the laboratory
•Design experiments, interpret results, and communicate findings (presentations and reports)
•Assist in training members of the team in laboratory techniques and operation of equipment
•Assist with the development of new experiments and procedures
•Employ a host of techniques to better understand upstream cell culture and fermentation processes and technologies
•Maintains lab supplies and equipment
•This individual will need to demonstrate the ability to meet additional requirements (i.e. standing for extended periods, moving heavy materials using safe practices, wearing necessary PPE etc.), as necessary
•Supports other duties as assigned
