The GSK Montrose site has received significant investment in recent years resulting in an exciting period of growth and expansion and we are looking to recruit an Analytical Development Chemist within the Technical Development Department (TD).

Day to day the successful candidate will be supporting non routine testing support, new process introduction and process improvement activities for the Montrose site.

The key responsibilities for this role are as follows –

• Non-routine analysis of APIs and intermediates to support laboratory synthesis through to atypical manufacturing investigations.
• Characterisation of physical contaminants and new process impurities
• Supporting analytical investigations with a particular focus on trouble shooting issues encountered during routine manufacture in order to determine route cause and corrective actions
• Development and validation of new analytical methods
• Supporting technology transfers and amendments to regulatory submissions in an analytical science context
• Maintaining laboratory housekeeping/safety standards, ensuring key equipment is maintained and in safe working order

In order to be considered for this exciting opportunity you will need the following skills and experience –
• Ideally educated to degree level or higher in Chemistry or a related subject, preferably with a focus on analytical chemistry. Significant and relevant experience will also be considered
• Demonstrable practical knowledge and experience with applying analytical techniques in a regulated, fast moving manufacturing environment
• Solid background and experience in key analytical techniques including HPLC, GC etc on an analytical and method development basis.
• Familiar with GMP and GLP
• Experience of spectroscopic characterisation including FTIR, NMR & MS
• Possess excellent planning skills paired with ability to work collaboratively across cross functional teams
• Proactive approach to problem solving

Supplementary to the principal attributes above we would be particularly interested in candidates who could also offer the following:

• Ideally have experience of inorganic characterisation methods (e.g. AAS, ICP) or materials science characterisation methods (e.g. XRPD, PSD, etc)
• Experience of analytical instrument validation
