The PPL Composites Foams SBU is seeking a Sr. R&D Engineer for technology & product development projects at the Hoosick Falls facility. The selected candidate will have a sound technical knowledge of polymer materials, processes, and products. The candidate will contribute to product development efforts in a team approach working closely with engineers and technicians in both the NRDC and manufacturing sites. This candidate will also contribute to application test method development and process development.
Essential Functions of the position:
Run their own experiments or guide technician-run experiments for technology understanding, to develop product prototypes, to support pilot scale processes, to ensure successful transfer of lab and pilot processes into manufacturing processes, and to qualify new products for commercialization.
Improve current processes or guide the design of new processes for silicone materials.
Work in a matrix organization, the candidate must possess oral and written communication skills to interact effectively with people from a wide range of background including business, manufacturing, research, engineering, technicians, and operators.
Proficient in computer skills and must have the ability to organize and complete tasks on time.
Excellent collaborative skills with the ability to work well in a large research and development team and business team.
Document accomplishments in clear and coherent technical reports and presentations.
Possess a mind set for the value of proper and safe handling of chemicals and the environment.

Educational Requirements for the position:
A product/process development background with a Master Degree in material science, chemistry, chemical engineering and 3-5 years of industrial experience in silicones, formulations, casting processes, design of experiments, process scale-up and application knowledge, or a PhD in material science, chemistry and chemical engineering with 1-3 years of industrial experience.
