Saint-Gobain’s Ceramics & Plastics Branch is searching for an Organics Mainteanance Sprecialist   to work in our Newbury, OH facility with ocassional support to our Hiram, OH facility. The Ceramics and Plastics Division includes a wide variety of businesses products worldwide: electro-fused ceramics, high performance refractory’s, advanced ceramics, silicon carbide, specialty crystals, chemical process products and high performance plastics. 

Accountability Objective :

The primary job of the Organics Maintenance Specialist is to perform plant maintenance tasks in both the Newbury and Hiram areas with a focus on the Casting Department in Newbury.  Occasionally, the Organics Maintenance Specialist may be required for operations within the Casting department.

50% - Furnace Maintenance

40%- Plant Maintenance

10%- Casting Operations 

 R esponsibilities in  Casting:

·  Perform mold making, which includes glass cleaning, mold release application, spacer bar selection and preparation, assembly of molds, attachment of support bars and runners, and load into an oven. Perform casting of Polymerized resin into fabricated glass molds of various sizes.
·  Removal of mold from curing ovens, removal of plastic from molds in water bath or dry release from ovens, with subsequent quality inspections of finished plastic sheets. Pilot scale casting as required.
·  Cool down, remove the preform plastic from the glass ampoule/molds, inspect, label and record. Perform all duties related to fiber manufacturing which includes entering data on computer to set up run sheets, prepare fiber preform/cladding assembly and load into the pulling tower, operate the fiber pulling tower using micro-processor based controllers, operate the fiber cut-off machines, perform QC on the fibers, operate the fiber ribbon winder and coating machine, record and maintain all production and quality records, prepare orders for shipment.

Responsibilities for Maintenance

·  General maintenance repairs  including PM’s
·  Ordering of maintenance supplies for both departments
·  Manage inventory of parts needed to repair all machinery in Newbury
·  Perform other work as required – both in Newbury and Hiram as demand dictates.
·  Must be able to safely operate a tier lift truck, pallet jack, or forklift or any other industrial license as needed; training will be provided.
·  The ability to obtain a confined space license is required; training will be provided.

Background/Skills/Education

The applicant must possess a high school diploma or GED. The applicant must have a minimum of 1 to 3 years' experience in a manufacturing environment. In addition, the applicant must have the following skills:

·  Experience with 480 V electrical work
·  General Knowledge, Fabrication and Industrial Maintenance.
·  LOTO experience
·  Plumbing experience  (Preferred)
·  Experience and/or familiarity with handling compressed gases and flammable liquids. (Preferred)
·  Ability to read drawings, charts, specifications, Material Safety Data Sheets, sketches and Work Instructions.

Communication/Problem Solving

·  Leadership potential is a plus
·  Good communication and documentation skills, both verbal and written.
·  Ability to influence without authority. (Preferred)
·  Self-starter with the ability to work with minimal supervision
·  A proven record of practical problem solving in a plant environment is highly preferred. (Preferred)

·  While performing the duties of this job the individual may have to lift 60 pounds unassisted.
·  Depending on the task, the individual will be required to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including (but not limited to) safety glasses, shoes, gloves, and respirators. 
·  In addition to the half-mask respirator, the Growth Maintenance Specialist must also wear particulate masks or full-face masks depending on the work areas and/or tasks.
