POSITION SUMMARY   

The Health and Safety Manager will provide leadership to the Health and Safety programs at the plant, within the defined World Class Manufacturing framework, in a manner consistent to the Values and Attitudes of the CertainTeed Gypsum and Saint-Gobain culture. With strategic guidance from both the central function and local plant manager, this hands-on leadership position will; ensure corporative and provincial legislative compliance, develop and maintain ISO systems, develop an autonomous H&S culture, promote defined Health and Wellness programs, define H&S standard operating  procedures, provide H&S training, develop risk identification and reduction awareness and methods, all achieved  through participation and employee engagement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES   

· 
Reports directly to the Plant Manager, with dotted line strategic reporting to the Canadian Health and Safety manager

· 
Provide interactive, hands-on leadership, coaching and mentoring to local H&S teams consisting of hourly and salaried employees

· 
Perform data entry into corporate H&S databases

· 
Analyze H&S data to populate and use WCM Safety Pillar Board, to define, implement and deliver H&S objectives

· 
Continuously inspect and evaluate the environment, equipment, processes, and workplace to ensure compliance with government safety regulations, corporation and industry standards

· 
Promote, develop and train behavioral H&S initiatives to drive to an autonomous H&S culture

· 
Build, develop, maintain ISO systems

· 
Liaises with government entities and maintains all H&S related permits

· 
Maintain H&S training program to ensure proper training is provided for all Saint-Gobain Safety Standards

· 
Audit against Saint Gobain Safety Standards and ensure compliance

· 
Leads and facilities joint health and safety team meetings

· 
Conduct Risk Assessments with salaried and hourly employees and deliver actions to mitigate the identified risks

· 
Communicate Safety Warnings and evaluate the possibility of occurrence at own location

· 
Participative member of Canadian EHS national teams

· 
Develop and implement Safety Risk reduction project plans based on Risk Calculator

· 
Ensure CertainTeed Gypsum’s standards of safety are designed into process and equipment utilizing WCM principles

· 
Provides support to project teams during delivery phase and commissioning of equipment

· 
Identifies safety opportunities and develop solutions of corrective actions

· 
Assists with training for operators and maintenance personnel

· 
Complies with all H&S standards, assures good housekeeping practices following 5S systems, enforces plant rules and safety regulations, consistent with the corporate Values and Attitudes.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY   

Prepares capital cost estimates for expenditures that support our goals and may control aspects of expenditures within the approved budget.  Tender negotiations with approved vendors.

WORKING CONDITIONS   

Works in a manufacturing plant environment with limited HVAC, concrete floors, and exposure to industrial noise, dust, chemicals and temperature changes.  Normal plant operation is 24 hours, 7 days a week and work hours may vary depending on business needs.  May require long hours, and weekend and holiday work.  May require travel by air and rental cars.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS   

Must be able to spend a significant amount of time on plant floor.  Job includes tasks that require long periods of sitting, walking, standing, working on a computer or engaging in telephone conversation.  Must be capable of wearing personal protective equipment necessary to comply with government and company safety standards whenever engineered methods of reducing hazards or physical requirements cannot be reasonably accommodated.
