POSITION SUMMARY
Stationary Engineer is Responsible for maintaining all Utility and Waste Water systems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
· Will be responsible for the day to day operations of Steam, Water Purification, Clean Air, Chilled Water, Refrigeration, Water for Injection, Distillation and Waste Water systems.
· Operate and maintain Utility equipment such as boilers, cooling towers, air compressors, distillation units, pumps, and valves.
· Perform periodic checks of equipment areas, including reading meters and gauges, adjusting controls and taking corrective action as needed.
· Ensure that equipment is repaired and maintained in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and/or manufacturer’s specification.
· Performs both scheduled and unplanned work on a wide variety of equipment and systems, including Preventative Maintenance (PM) and Corrective Maintenance work.
· Identify and report low performing or failing systems for pre-emptive corrective actions or upgrade suggestions.
· Supports implementation of upgrades and new engineering/maintenance projects.
· Initiates and complete all necessary documentation to comply with company and regulatory policies.
· Takes the necessary actions to ensure equipment and/or environment is safe and consistent with relevant laws, codes and/or governing polices.
· Identify needed equipment, parts, and supplies necessary to complete repairs.
· Responsible for coordinating with manufacturing departments to perform work in a timely manner.
· May conduct root cause analyses.
· Strict adherence to procedures and practices according to FDA regulations.
· Strong emphasis on documentation according to FDA regulations.
· Adhere to departmental corporate safety policies.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/SKILLS & EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
· High School diploma or GED required. Trade School, Vocational Certificate, Associates Degree, or Military training in related field is highly preferred.
· Minimum of 2 years related stationary engineer / utilities maintenance experience preferably in an FDA / GMP regulated environment.
· Equivalency: In lieu of 2 years of experience, candidate must have a minimum of an Associates Degree or Vocational Certification in Steam Plant operations, or closely related technical discipline.
· Required by the City of Los Angeles municipal code to have a valid 500 HP Steam Engineer license issued by the Los Angeles City Department of Building and Safety. A current, existing license is preferred, but if hired without a 500 HP license, must be willing to obtain one within the first 6 months from the date of hire.
· Requires an understanding of operating and maintaining steam plant and auxiliary equipment.
· Working knowledge of compressed air, vacuum, purified / water for injection, pure steam and alcohol distillation are required.
· Light plumbing skills are a plus.
· Must have strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify and resolve equipment problems.
· Demonstrated strong mechanical aptitude.
· Able to read and understand mechanical and electrical drawings, Piping and Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) drawings and schematics.
· Knowledge of safe and proper use of hand, power and measuring tools, as well as basic shop equipment.
· Ability to read and interpret equipment performance data.
· Must be proactive, results oriented, and have strong attention to detail.
· Self-starter with strong work ethic and the ability to exercise good judgment.
· Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks to meet targeted deadlines.
· Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with personnel at all levels in a team environment.
· Must be able to read, write, and speak English - only for Techs, Material Handlers, Maintenance
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills in the English language.
· Computer literacy with proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
· Must be flexible with working hours / shifts in order to accommodate the 24 hour, 7 day plant operation.
· May also be required to be on call, on a rotating basis.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
· Ability to lift /move up to 50 pounds.
· Ability to stand for extended periods - up to four (4) hours at a time.
· Manual dexterity to perform all job functions.
· Ability to gown and work in an aseptic/clean room environment.
· Exposure to toxic/caustic chemicals and biological hazards.
· Ability to climb ladders and enter/exit confined spaces.
