Business Development Manaer and Optical Assistant

I have re-written this job advertisment because i was surprised at the lack of interest and so i thought some clarification as to what it entails would be useful.

I am a small, independent Optician who specialises in visiting the elderly throughout Devon & Cornwall in their own homes. I offer a very personal and caring service with no commercial or sales pressure and this allows me to compete against the large commercial chains which also operate in the area.

This job merges two very disparate skillsets into one diverse and interesting job.

50% of your time you will be acting as a PA/administrator. There is more to this than meets the eye as you will be running key parts of the business. In managing my diary, appointments, as well as ordering glasses, chasing up billing etc you will be responsible for overseeing large parts of how the business works. Your sucess and organisation in this area will contribute to your salary as it directly affects how well the business runs. The ability to juggle lots of things at once and have a detailed knowlege of the month ahead is very important here- organisation is key! This is the "business development" component- simple admin doesn't cover it.

The remaining 50% of your time will be spent working alongside a fully qualified Optometrist acting as an "optical assistant". This includes frame selection and simple measurements with the elderly- as well as having a chat with them and putting them at ease! Training for this element will be provided.

This role has scope for career development- my business is just 18 months old and, if it continues to grow at its current rate, i will need additional staff in another 6 months. This will create an opportunity for management and other new positions and additional responsibility for the candidate who joins me early, should they want it of course.
