YOUR IMPACT
The Technology Division has partnered closely with the business in providing its specific technology needs to help it grow and be effective in the market through technology solutions; providing better market access and liquidity, developing user-acceptable trading desktops and continuing to improve straight-through processing (STP) and controls to drive down operational costs and risk.
This associate/developer role provides a great opportunity to learn about banking and the derivatives markets in this fast paced and challenging environment.
OUR IMPACT
The Credit Derivatives Flow business trades in a range of products that include Single Name Default Swaps, Asset Swaps, CDS Indices, Baskets, Options and Bonds (Corporate Bonds, Euro Bonds, High Yield and Distressed). The recent turmoil in the financial markets has led to significant changes in the way the business operates, driven by the industry itself as well as the financial authorities. The need for technology to develop and implement those changes has never been greater.
HOW YOU WILL FULFIL YOUR POTENTIAL
Working as an associate/developer of the global Credit Derivatives Flow Technology team includes:
- Partnering closely with traders, salespeople, quantitative and operation analysts on issues and business initiatives to drive profitably and efficiency.
- Supporting the business on day to day issues.
- Analysing and defining requirements to challenging business problems.
- Formulating and developing innovative and fault-tolerant technical solutions while helping to deliver them in a timely manner to meet frequently tight business deadlines.
- Enhancing current systems to meet the growing business volumes and demands.
- Monitoring performance and failure rates to recommend and engineering cost-effective solutions where needed.
- Having exposure to all stages of the software development cycle with a range of technologies (standard and proprietary) including SecDB, a state-of-the-art object-oriented database.
- Considerable exposure to the business and we strive to maintain a close relationship with traders, sales and strategists, with seats available on the trading desk to increase interaction.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- Strong academic record with minimum Master’s level or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering or a related quantitative discipline required
- Prior experience of developing technology solutions gained from working within investment banking industry essential
- Strong programming experience in more than one language including Java, SQL, Matlab, R and HTML required
- UAT/Integration testing and application maintenance experience required
- Knowledge of electronic trading technologies (Bloomberg, ICAP, Tradition) and the desire to understand the financial products is crucial
- Working knowledge of UNIX/Linux and Windows/XP required
- Must have ability to work in a high-pressure environment and be able to multi-task and prioritise appropriately in order to remain delivery focussed
- Must be a self-starter with a can-do attitude about making technology work for the business
- Excellent technical skills to analyse and develop high quality software required
- Must have the drive to see projects through from specification through to development, production and support
- Must be a strong team player with ability to collaborate with stakeholders across all levels
- Must be able to contribute to design debates both within the team and more widely
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) required
