Goldman Sachs’ Strats business unit is a world leader in developing quantitative and technological techniques to solve complex business problems. Working within the firm’s trading, sales, banking and investment management divisions, strats use their mathematical and scientific training to create financial products, advise clients on transactions, measure risk, and identify market opportunities.

Roles within Securities Strats
Securities Strats play important roles in several areas. Some Strats sit on trading desks, creating cutting-edge derivative pricing models and developing empirical models to provide insight into market behaviour. Others develop automated trading algorithms for the firm and its clients, taking an active part in the increasing shift from voice to electronic trading. A third group works directly with the firm’s sales force and clients, analysing exposures, structuring transactions, and applying quantitative concepts to meet client needs. Between these teams, Core Strats design and develop complex parallel computing architectures, electronic trading tools, and advanced algorithms.

Commodities Desk (Trading) Strat Role:
•Develop derivatives pricing and risk management tools for use across the Commodities trading desks  -- Metals, Crude, Coal, Gas & Power etc
• Create analytical tools to improve the efficiency, risk management and revenue creating capabilities of the Commodities Business
• Develop efficient and scalable systems
• Work with traders, sales and other strats to analyse positions and transactions pre and post execution

Basic Qualifications

• Academic background in a technical field: Computer Science, Physics, Engineering or Mathematics  
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• 3 or more years’ experience as a quantitative analyst or equivalent role
• Work experience in a related field; Commodities, FX, interest rate products ..
• Strong knowledge of probability, statistics, stochastic calculus and derivatives pricing
• Strong coding and software design skills (in particular, experience in Java, Matlab, C++ and R)

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience as a developer working on a trading desk or similar environment
• Knowledge of Commodities markets and products
• Understanding of Mathematical Finance
