Are you passionate about using data to challenge the norm? We’re looking for a strong data analytics professional to join our Embedded Data Analytics team where they will work closely with the audit teams to apply analytical techniques to data and develop insight into the firm’s control environment.

In Internal Audit, we ensure that Goldman Sachs maintains effective controls by assessing the reliability of financial reports, monitoring the firm’s compliance with laws and regulations, and advising management on developing smart control solutions. Our group has unique insight on the financial industry and its products and operations. We’re looking for detail-oriented team players who have an interest in financial markets and want to gain insight into the firm’s operations and control processes.
The Embedded Data Analytics team leverages their programming and advanced analytics skillset to work closely with auditors and develop data-centric analysis and testing strategies that derive insight and help the audit team to better understand the firm’s businesses.
HOW YOU WILL FULFILL YOUR POTENTIAL
• Assist auditors through hands-on analysis of firm data and providing insights from it.
• Help the audit team understand the tools, approaches and infrastructure available to them
• Extract data from the firm’s data stores, profile to identify key features, patterns and outliers, and performing scenario based testing.
• Assess the quality of data extracted to understand potential limitations or issues
• Develop visualization analytics and reporting to present scenarios from the data; both at a high level to highlight potential risks and at the detailed level to enable root cause analyses
• Work with the audit teams to build strategic self-service data products that enable auditors to more efficiently and effectively work with firm data and identify potential risk
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE WE’RE LOOKING FOR
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
• Minimum 2 years of experience working in the Data Analytics field with preference for experience in Financial Services
• Hands-on experience with SQL programming, preferably in Sybase and MS SQL
• Experience with analytical/statistical programming such as SAS, SPSS, Python or R
• Excellent communication skills (written and oral). Ability to communicate what is relevant and important in a clear and concise manner
• Drive and Motivation. Ability to handle multiple tasks, takes initiative to improve their own performance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Understanding of the basics of Finance is preferred
• Knowledge of basic statistics (Time Series Analysis, Correlation, Regression) and its application to data
• Experience with any visualization tool (Spotfire, Qlikview or Tableau) will be an added advantage
• Experience with scripting or formal programming languages such as Javascript, Python or Java
• Creativity/Innovation. Ability to create new ways to improve current processes and develop solutions that are grounded in reality and have practical value
• A financial industry certification (CFA, FRM, PRM etc.) would be useful but not required
