Job Summary & Responsibilities
Goldman Sachs’ Global Investment Research division delivers value-added research to clients in the equity, fixed income, currency and commodities markets. Goldman Sachs develops global client-focused research in economics, portfolio strategy, derivatives and equity and credit securities. Our clients use these insights and investment ideas to develop their strategies.
Global Investment Research produces original, fundamental research and analysis of industries, companies and economies. Our research teams continually identify and analyze financial information, strategic issues and trends that affect companies, industries and markets on a regional and global scale.
Global Investment Research department in the Sydney office is looking for a Supervisory Analyst (SA). A Supervisory Analyst manages reputational risk by ensuring that the research product meets high standards of quality and integrity. We are looking for an individual with a strong knowledge of business and finance who has worked as an analyst or a Supervisory Analyst in investment research for at least three years. The successful candidate will work closely with our large team of global investment research analysts and other constituents to review and publish investment research across a variety of disciplines, including equities, fixed income, economics, portfolio strategy, and derivatives. We are looking for a responsible team player who is highly motivated, detail-oriented, decisive, and able to work efficiently to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
In this position, the candidate will be required to do the following:
• SA, edit, data check, clear (including ensuring that all necessary disclosures are included), and publish reports, presentations, models, and other forms of investment research as needed.
• Work with analyst teams globally to publish research products accurately and commercially.
• Work with Compliance to ensure that research satisfies regulatory requirements and business rules.
• Work collaboratively with other members of the global Content Management Group to coordinate tasks, project manage, and provide backup coverage as needed.
• Meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment with a heavy product flow.
• Be able to work full time Monday to Friday as well as extended hours as needed.
• Use proprietary applications as well as Microsoft Office to review and process research.
Basic Qualifications
The candidate should have the following attributes:
• University graduate.
• Minimum of three years of experience in the financial industry, preferably as an analyst or Supervisory Analyst.
• Reasonable grounding in financial statement analysis and valuation.
• FINRA Series 16. Candidates who do not have the FINRA Series 16 qualification will be expected to pass the exam soon after joining. Other relevant financial qualifications (FINRA Series 4, 7, 63, or the CFA) would be advantageous. Relevant post-graduate degree (such as an MBA) would also be advantageous.
• Ability to see the wider picture: Good judgement of the commerciality, robustness, structure, logic, and balance of a research product and its adherence to all regulatory requirements and business rules.
• Excellent interpersonal skills to manage relationships with internal clients, including direct managers, analyst teams, compliance officers, and representatives from other Goldman Sachs departments. Many of these clients are offshore, requiring strong telephone and written communication skills.
• Proven time management and organisational skills: ability to prioritise and juggle several projects while working under the pressure of tight deadlines.
• Highly motivated: a self-starter, able to work independently and as part of a global team.
• Detail oriented: good at following the numbers.
• Enthusiastic and keen, with a genuine interest in business and financial markets.
• Proficiency in Microsoft desktop applications: Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint.
